Making a primary impression for partial dentures
-------------------------------------------------
Having reviewed anatomical landmarks and operator positioning (in my previous posts), we will now explore the fundamentals of taking a primary impression.
Primary impressions for partially dentate arches should:
• Record the full remaining dentition and denture bearing area (DBA)
• Capture the functional sulcus depth
• Ideally account for any limiting anatomy
• Show no voids, drags or air blows
• Show no tears or detachment from the tray
• Be central in the tray with an even thickness of material
