Recently, a patient told me, “I love coming to see you because you’re always smiling.”…..

I’m laughing as I’m writing this thinking of my mom constantly telling us to smile when we walked down the hallways in school…….to which my sisters and I would roll our eyes.

But I get it now.

Smiles are welcoming. Smiles are comforting. Smiles are contagious.

Smiling is a universal language that everyone understands. So, yeah, I guess I do smile a lot.

I lost my voice this week. Here’s a few things I realized……

Sometimes the best way to communicate isn’t by talking, it’s by listening.

You can still make someone feel heard by saying very little.

People value authenticity over perfection every time.

Loud moments don’t always require a loud response.

Yelling (at my kids, not my patients 😜) is overrated and highly ineffective.

Honestly, I didn’t hate it. I think we could all use a quiet week once in awhile. ☺️
