Due to the passing of both Dr. Laura Kovalcik and Howard Downing, The Downing Clinic is permanently closed. There are no remaining employees, owners, or business representatives available to answer questions or provide assistance.

I am no longer employed by The Downing Clinic, and I am not being compensated to manage its social media, or respond to inquiries. This post was made solely as a courtesy to provide the last available information.

Unfortunately, there is no one remaining associated with the clinic who can provide additional assistance or answer questions regarding its operations.

It is with heartbreaking sadness that I share the unexpected passing of Howard Downing, the beloved stepfather of the late Dr. Laura Kovalcik and the late Dr. Nedra Downing.

Please keep their family and loved ones in your prayers as they navigate yet another profound loss and the heartbreak they are experiencing. May God surround them with His love, grant them strength for each day, and bring them comfort and peace in the days ahead.

Rest in peace, Howard.

To Dr. Laura's active patients.

Active patients will receive a letter by mail after June 10, 2026, containing instructions on how to complete and sign an Authorization for Release of Medical Records form in order to obtain copies of their medical records and test results. Fees for copies of records will be assessed in accordance with applicable Michigan state law.

We respectfully ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult transition, as our staff is working diligently to assist all active patients and complete this process as legally, efficiently and compassionately as possible.

For decades, Dr. Laura dedicated her life to caring for others with compassion, intelligence, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to helping her patients achieve better health naturally. She touched countless lives through her practice, her listening ear, and her genuine desire to help every person who walked through the clinic doors feel seen, heard, and cared for.

Dr. Laura graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and devoted more than 25 years to practicing internal and integrative medicine. She carried on the legacy of The Downing Clinic with the same heart and dedication that her mother, Dr. Nedra Downing, began in 1991. (Natural Therapies)

To her patients, she was more than a doctor. She was a trusted guide, an advocate, and often a source of hope during difficult times. Her passion for natural healing, nutrition, and treating the whole person made a lasting impact on this community and beyond.

Our hearts are with her family, friends, staff, colleagues, and the many patients whose lives she changed forever.

Dr. Laura’s compassion, wisdom, and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten.
