September is Su***de Prevention Month, and World Su***de Prevention Day is September 10. Knowing what to look for and how to respond can genuinely save a life. 💚💜
Here’s a quick guide to recognizing the signs and stepping up for someone in need:
Recognize the Warning Signs
Verbal Cues: Talking about feeling like a burden, having no purpose, or feeling trapped.
Behavior Shifts: Isolating from friends/family, giving away possessions, or drastic routine changes.
Mood Changes: Extreme anxiety, sudden anger, or a sudden, unexpected calm after deep depression.
How to Offer Support
Ask Directly: Simply asking, "Are you thinking about su***de?" opens a safe door for honest conversation—it does NOT put the idea in their head.
Listen Without Judgment: Validate their pain without jumping straight to unsolicited advice or quick fixes.
Keep Them Safe & Connect: Stay with them if they're in immediate danger, and help connect them with trusted professionals.
