One minute they're napping. The next they're racing through the house 😹
Scientists say the "zoomies" — short bursts of high-speed running, spinning, and jumping — are usually a normal behavior known as frenetic random activity periods (FRAPs). They can be triggered by excitement, play, or a sudden release of energy after resting. Researchers also say many cats get the zoomies after using the litter box, in what some scientists have nicknamed "poo-phoria."
Experts add that zoomies are generally a sign that pets are healthy, excited, and having fun. However, if the behavior becomes repetitive, lasts unusually long, or leads to injuries, they recommend consulting a veterinarian.
