A recent commentary suggested fertility practices are thriving because OBGYNs aren't doing their jobs.
I disagree.
The issue isn't that physicians aren't working hard enough. The issue is that reproductive medicine has become highly specialized.
The OBGYN sees one piece.
The fertility specialist sees another.
The geneticist sees another.
But who is looking at the entire story?
Many women spend tens of thousands of dollars on treatment while still lacking a clear understanding of why they are not conceiving, implanting, or carrying a pregnancy.
Sometimes the most important question isn't:
"What should we do next?"
It's:
"What have we not understood yet?"
That question deserves time, expertise, and thoughtful review.
