Socrates, one of the greatest thinkers of Greek philosophy of antiquity, famously said, “ The strongest minds discuss ideas; the average minds discuss events; the weakest minds discuss people.” Nevertheless, today instead of someone’s intentions or business we will tackle an object that is Candelabra.
This term emerged in 1811 as a “table to support lamps and candles.” It originated from the Latin” Candelabrum”(singular) and “Candelabra”(plural) with the meaning of candlestick. But from Old English onward, it has come to be accepted as candelabra specifically by Britannica dictionary for the singular and candelabras for the plural.
Primarily, Candelabra stands for a large decorative candle holder with multiple branches or arms or, in the modern era, an electric light fixture similarly shaped. The Romans, who are known for extravagant light fixtures, designed the first candelabras that were found at Pompeii, one of the well-known sites.
Throughout, candelabra has been differentiated , on the one hand, from chandelier that is a single light fixture suspended from the ceiling and incorporated with a serie of light bulbs; whereas candelabra is made for table or stand and consists in branched-candlesticks. On the other hand, a menorah exists as a candelabra with a seven or nine branches or light holders, depending on the religious significance.

The term, Football, arose in 1409 as “foteball”(football) referring to the name of a game different from other horseback riding sports, according to the Oxford English lexicon. Subsequently, in 1486, the word was attributed to the ball itself. However, Football modern surfaced in England, not until 1863 as rugby football and football association which, nowadays, stands for American football and soccer, respectively. Nevertheless, Football in America originated from the “sports of Soccer and rugby”, and was premiered on November 6, 1869, as the first intercollegiate match between Rutgers and Princeton in New Brunswick, New Jersey, under the rules of the London Football Association.
Principally, football prevailed in the British arena to differentiate from the “gridiron game” practiced just across the Atlantic Ocean. In terms of connotations, it is a sport opposing two teams of eleven players who try to bring the ball through the adverse goalposts. About American football, a product of rugby, the players utilized heavy protection gear to prevent major injuries from tackles.
Concerning illustrations, Americans are prepared to celebrate the most popular sports in the world by crowning the winning team of the FIFA World Cup. On that account, someone could let out the following: football as most sports can improve your overall fitness, can decrease stress, boost your confidence, and above all make you a millionaire; however, football can be quite physical causing major injuries among them a cerebral concussion and other long-term care issues; in addition, football involves high levels of pressure that may interfere with career paths and provoke controversies with racial overtone.

The term, Recession, came to light in 1640s as an “ act of receding, going back,” and originated from French by way of the Latin verb “recedere,” then “ recessio,” which is deconstructed into “ re”(back) and “ cedere”( to go). This entity, in economic terms, has been used often and represents the period between the peak of the financial condition and its decline.
Primarily, it occurs as a downturn of the economy during which trade and industrial activity have regressed, and two successive quarters of GDP have fallen. Aside from the financial aspect, it has been utilized not merely the action of receding process or going back as the flooding water of a river but also the withdrawal of an individual from an activity.
Even though it is said that two economists never agree on anything, what is certain is that the economy goes through “ booms and busts,” and the latter represents the recession. According to the experts, the importance of an economic cycle is the trend: at one time the growth goes below and at another time above. Unless a depression shows sharper falls in output and a tremendous increase in unemployment, politicians have no difficulty mostly during election years decreasing taxes and increasing spending by giving out benefits. More often, this maneuver will moderate the recession and will make the electorate happy.
About illustration, a recession can be beneficial in certain ways when it comes to getting rid of bad companies and providing an outstanding decrease in asset sale prices. Furthermore, some businesses thrive in a recession because people need to buy stuffs live groceries, beer and wine, children goods, pet items, etc. Needless to say, health care industries, since one’s need to stay alive, and retail stores to get cheap items subsist despite the decline in the economy. Remember the biggest problem in a recession, is cyclic unemployment when individuals can not provide for their family members and become mentally depressed.

This composed word that sprung in the 1580s as a compound or reduplication rhyme from the term “skelter “ (hasten) is first known to be an adverb denoting “in a confused or hurried fashion.” But, it wasn't until the early 19th century, a famous ride was constructed under the name of Helter-skelter, a whiplash, and noisy fast slide, at the Luna Park in Coney Island, which was subsequently closed in 1946.

Today's word is Imbroglio
This English term that is borrowed from Italy as “ Imbrogliare”( confuse) originated in 1750 in terms of jumble meaning an untidy collection of objects. Yet, it is synonymous to the French word “ embrouiller” that has the same significance as embrouiller meaning “em”(thoroughly) plus “brouiller”(to mix). Nonetheless, early in 17th century the English speakers adopted the word “ embroil,” instead of to mix or to confuse while the Italians were using “imbrogliare.” However, it wasn't until the mid-18th century that the English speakers rescinded imbroil and the noun embroilment and embraced the Italian word Imbroglio.
Primarily, imbroglio connotes an acutely embarrassing, painful and complicated situation such as an arraignment. In addition, it encompasses a circumstance or action deleterious to moral and ethics similar to the “Watergate imbroglio.” Finally, it denotes a violently complicated altercation similar to the mob with the Capitol police on Jan 6, 2021, after the defeat of U.S. President Donald Trump.
To illustrate further, imbroglio doesn't occur only between individuals and groups but also between nations in conflict, equivalent to the Soviet Union leaving Afghanistan and the United States evacuating Vietnam because of trouble and difficulties. In short, we cannot ignore contemporaneously the imbroglio of Ukraine that needs to be dissect in order to get some understanding.

The term Variant derived in the 14th century from French as an adjective “ variant” (varying) by way of the verb “varier”(vary). But, it was only in the mid 20th century that it has evolved into a noun that has become so popular because of its relation with the CoVID-19 virus. To make some light, after the contamination, the virus is transmitted from one individual to another; it develops mutations that provoke changes at the level of the genes to survive. As a result, those modifications can lead to a new strain of genetically distinct viruses from the main one.
Generally, variant stands for a “ form or version” of something different in some respect from the other identical forms. About virology, the Omicron variant, for example, is a variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus responsible for COVID-19. It has been detected for the first time, according to OMS, in South Africa. Subsequently, several mutations have demonstrated that this variant has been more contagious and resistant to some vaccines. Variants usually emerge, and also fade away; this is the nature of the beast. However, new variants will continue to surface. In contrast, CDC and other health organizations will continue to monitor all the variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the USA and worldwide.
Concerning illustrations, the Omicron variant has been involved in some changes at the receptor binding of the virus and is responsible for neutralizing antibodies from previous infections and some vaccines. On that remark, someone could advise you that taking covid precautions and getting vaccinated appear to be the only way out of that Pandemic. Moreover, according to the CDC, unvaccinated adults are 23 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 during the Omicron wave than those who were vaccinated and received boosters.

Today’s word is Discombobulated. This term was echoed for the first time from the American English in 1834 under the significance of being upset or embarrassed. However, as an adjective originating from the verb “ discombobulate,” an attempt was made to coin it as a Latin expression simulating a type of mockery, without success.
Generally speaking, Discombobulated is a fancy utterance that entails “being confused and disconcerted.” Indeed, if someone is put in a state of disarray to the point that they feel like they have a perplexed mind, the result must be embarrassment or great despair. Nonetheless, it encompasses not only individuals in a state of confusion but a feeling of being upset or frustrated as well.
To illustrate, the dreadful event, in Israel on September 7, 2023, represents an embarrassment for their intelligence services which have been, in no other terms, discombobulated. As a result, the discombobulated victims were powerless, at the time, because they probably expected to have an unblemished security that never happened at the rave concert.
Still, this unknown-origin slang probably is a fanciful modification of letters from other pompous locutions that translate into an inability to remain calm and self-assured. Consequently, it can be invoked whenever one stands in the middle of difficult predicaments as bewildered, confounded, stymied, devastated, addled, etc.
