Super Bowl Sunday? More like, Superb OWL Sunday! Did you know that barred owl Lia was found in 2016 by hikers with an injured leg and wing? She received treatment and healed well, though her injury did require one of her wings to be amputated, meaning if released into the wild, she would not be able to hunt well enough to survive.

Despite her amputation, Lia navigates her space well. Her habitat is set up so she has access to multiple levels of perching, and engages in a variety of behaviors including interacting with browse left as enrichment, taking a bath, and more during the night.

PLEASE NOTE: While the Rosamond Gifford Zoo can be called upon by licensed wildlife rehabilitation centers or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (in coordination with the AZA) in the event that an un-releasable rescued animal needs placement, we CAN NOT accept injured animals from the public.
