Our MIND CONNECTION Interoception Workshop is quickly approaching!
This workshop has a bit of a story behind it and Brittany, SheWolf Owner, opens up about it.
“I started interoception training for a reason that had very little to do with fitness. I have been managing with debilitating dysautonomia since 2014. I started to need to really understand the signals coming from my own body to recognize them, interpret them, and respond to them appropriately instead of constantly knee-jerking every time I experienced a flare up or new symptom.
What I CERTAINLY didn't expect was how profoundly that work would change the way I train!
Interoception is our own awareness of what's happening inside the body from our heartbeat to breathing, tension, fatigue, effort, temperature and other internal sensations that our brain is actually hardwired to ignore!
Proprioception is our awareness of where our body is in space-where a joint is positioned, how a muscle is lengthening or shortening, how we're distributing and applying force, and how we're moving without needing to watch ourselves do it. If you’ve ever been to one of my classes, all of the cues you hear from me might be making a little more sense now!
What I realize now that I didn’t at the time is that those two systems are incredibly relevant to something we talk about constantly in fitness:
Mind-muscle connection.
The better I became at actually feeling my body, the better I became at training it. I could recognize when I was creating tension in the muscle I intended to train rather than simply completing a movement. I became very aware of subtle compensations, positioning, bracing and where I was actually distributing load. I could make tiny adjustments that completely changed an exercise.
My lifts became very intentional. Movement became more efficient and concise.
And "mind-muscle connection" stopped being abstract-it became something I could actually understand from the inside out.
That's one of the reasons this workshop means so much to me🩷
This workshop is about recognizing that you are SO much more than a brain inside of your body. It’s about realizing how critical one is to the other and the amount of awareness you can develop for each of those systems.”
Join us for this near-sensory deprivation workshop where we will show you how to truly feel your body in an entirely different way from the inside out. Spots are limited!
