We had athletic trainers come in and talk with our Sports Medicine classes about the profession. They also shared some of the crazy injuries and real-life scenarios they’ve experienced in the field. This helped students understand the importance of quick decision-making and proper technique in emergency situations.

Students learned how to perform an 8-man lift and log roll for backboarding. Of course, we had to make it a little fun by rotating the student over- showing that proper stability matters and that the athlete should not be able to move at all when it’s done correctly. They also practiced applying vacuum splints for fractures and dislocations.

Thank you to our guest speakers Clarissa and Bryan!

Hands-on learning in action! Ms. Brudvig’s Sports Medicine and Health Occupations students welcomed a D.O. medical student who shared their pathway into osteopathic medicine, including education, training, and real-world experiences.

Students practiced intubation using simulation equipment as part of an interactive airway management activity. This hands-on experience reinforced the importance of precision and real-world healthcare skills.

Experiences like this at the Pankow Center continue to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals!

Ms. Brudvig’s Sports Medicine program had a Physician Assistant (PA) come in as a guest speaker to discuss the profession, educational pathway, and career opportunities in the field. Students not only learned about the PA role, but they also participated in a hands-on suturing workshop where they practiced real clinical techniques!

Opportunities like this connect students directly with healthcare professionals, expose them to advanced medical skills, and allow them to explore career pathways.
