The editorial, which was co-authored by John Buse, MD, PhD, and others, is titled: "Misguided Brushes of a Pen Continue to Dismantle and Destroy Biomedical Research in the United States: We Can No Longer Afford Complacency and Fear. We Must All Act Now!"

It criticizes the Trump administration's requested 2027 budget that seeks a $5 billion reduction to NIH, along with the numerous changes to HHS and the NIH made since January 2025. It also details the many impacts to diabetes research funding since that time."

📣 Important health news!
Did you know if you want to see a doctor that is not on your insurance's list (they didn't sign an agreement to follow the policies of your insurance and chose to take better care of you instead) and the doctor sends you to get a test or see a specialist, your insurance may refuse to pay for it. That's insurance greed at it's finest. You pay your insurance to help pay for your health care and they hold the money hostage and come up with ways to keep it all for themselves.

Iowa just passed a law saying that the insurance still has to pay for it — and they cannot charge you extra just because your doctor isn't on their list.
That is, TRULY, putting patients first !
You should never be punished just because of which doctor you chose. 💙

This is where the corporate practice of medicine missed the boat and patients can feel the difference. They know the difference between being treated like customers, sources of income, versus patients, someone you care for. Doctors feel the difference too, but for them it's a burned out emptiness because there work no longer feels rewarding. They made medicine transactional and it must always be relational.
