So very thankful for Julie Tudor and the Massage, Health Practitioners and COVID-19 group. Julie provides some insightful considerations regarding Pfizer's announcement of their early vaccine trials.

"You will hear much jubilation today and in the days ahead about the results Pfizer and BioNTech are crowing about their SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. It certainly seems like good news and a major scientific achievement.
HOWEVER...
Even our best media sources often have lazy or incomplete science reporting, and this is a good example of reporting that does not really understand the significance of the research, and while offering many clues, doesn’t draw the details together in a meaningful way.
https://www.theguardian.com/.../covid-19-vaccine...
Here is what you MUST be careful about:
🦠• Of 43,538 participants, 94 got sick with COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. That is a SMALL SAMPLE to test from, and while 90% effectiveness amongst them is hopeful, it is not a large enough sample to make a definitive claim.
🦠• Protection offered by the vaccine was only effective up to SEVEN DAYS. We know that this disease can last for weeks and even months, and that protection of antibodies quickly fades. We need proof of LONG TERM EFFICACY. Seven days is not enough.
🦠• This vaccine requires TWO DOSES and COLD STORAGE and TRANSPORT, and NONE of those factors are reflected in the results being reported upon.
🦠• “Good News!” headlines often hide deeper intent, and right now, the intent of this particular story is that Pfizer/BioNTech want an early pass to allow them to distribute their vaccine first, meaning they are poised to get a massive financial windfall if they do.
In short, the REAL STORY is this:
💫⭐️ 90% of 94 people had up to 7 days of protection from the effects of infection by the virus. The information, while hopeful, is incomplete. This is why we WAIT for trials to run their full course. ⭐️💫
I look forward to getting excited AFTER efficacy has been proven to provide long term protection, and is proven by more than 84 partial success stories. It’s amazing to me that this has already caused a 3.6% jump in S&P 500 values. This shows how desperate people are for good news. It’s just better to wait for fully confirmed good news.
Please, use your critical thinking skills — no matter how sunny the skies may seem. With science, the story ALWAYS evolves and is never as simple as it may initially be told. Fact check even your most relied upon news sources, and run for the hills from those news outlets using such stories for political and financial gain.

Here is the actual press release: https://www.pfizer.com/.../pfizer-and-biontech-announce...
One good thing that was noted was that effectiveness of the vaccine appears to span across all racial combinations and genetic lines. This means that, one, they are making racial sensitivity a priority, which is something you don’t often see in trials; and, two, opinions that posit certain genetic roots might mean you are more vulnerable to viral infections are found-less and false. People of color or whom are in a minority/lower class/caste are more vulnerable to infection by all diseases, including COVID-19, due to socioeconomic factors, including systemic racism and cultural shunning.

Love, love, love Tracy Walton. Such a wonderful mentor and friend.

I bought a used bicycle for the pandemic. It’s a ridiculous thing to say, but hear me out. Why I chose to spend the weekend on craigslist>forsale>bikes before holing up for weeks is a long story. Cycling with friends is a perfect socially distant activity. Love cycling and have biked seriously lon...

While the Minnesota “Northland” has not yet felt the impact of COVID-19 corona virus in the ways other areas of the country have, I have made the difficult decision to close my business from today through April 3rd, 2020. I am watching daily updates from the MN and WI Departments of Health, the CDC, and staying connected to professional colleagues; I will reassess my timeline for reopening as appropriate.

Protecting the more vulnerable members of our community from “community spread” is of primary concern. I appreciate how one colleague phrased it: “my decision is an act of love, and as many acts of love, it does not come without personal cost”.

In typical circumstances, I would ask you to cancel your appointment or reschedule if you were feeling unwell or symptomatic of a cold or the flu; limiting exposure to the COVID-19 strain of this virus requires stronger resolve from each of us. The fact that someone can be exposed, infected, and have no symptoms for days, yet still be infectious to others means that even “social distancing” isn’t sufficient when it comes to the massage room. Delayed diagnosis and unknown exposure with a virus that can stay airborne for hours and live on surfaces for days means the risks are too great for both you and I, and everyone we subsequently come into contact with.

The necessity for those of us that are not on the front lines of patient care, public and emergency services to “step back” hopefully provides some time for self-care, introspection and refocusing. May your circumstances allow time for your individual needs, even as we travel this uncertain path forward.

Know that I am grateful for you and will miss seeing you in the office! Won’t a massage be a great way to de-stress once things have eventually normalized and we are able to start rescheduling? In the event you are feeling the need for “connection”, please reach out to me through messenger, e-mail, or by phone. I would be happy to hear from you and know how you are doing.

Praying for health, strength, and peace of mind for you and all you hold dear!

My parents lived good lives and expected to die good deaths. They exercised daily, ate plenty of fruits and vegetables, and kept, in their well-organized files, boilerplate advance health directives. But when he was 79, my beloved and seemingly vigorous father came up from his basement study, put on...

"We always operate with the highest integrity". One of the values Performance Health, the company which markets Biofreeze, represents itself as holding on its "About Us" page.

In opposition to that value, I invite you to review the attached GoFundMe and determine whether you agree Performance Health is not living up to its stated value.
Personally, I believe their treatment of Lynda is reprehensible, and I will be utilizing alternative products from here on out.

I encourage you to share Lynda's GoFundMe and to tag Biofreeze as well, if you're in agreement this isn't acceptable behavior by a company that promotes itself as "a leader in consumer healthcare".
