The less you can draw attention to your “pain” the less you focus on it. Try to direct your mind to the PROGRESS you are making and the rest periods between each contraction.
Here are some things you can add to your birth plan to help!
1. Please do not ask about my pain scale
2. Please do not offer pain medication/epidural
3. Please support and encourage an unmedicated birth
4. Please encourage movement
Listen, you’re in a hospital. We all know an epidural is an option. But tell yourself it’s not. Pretend the anesthesiologist is actually out for the day.
Make a plan with your birth team on how you would like them to handle a situation where you may ask for an epidural at the peak of a contraction! They don’t immediately jump. Give it time, have them bring you back to your WHY and encourage you to try something different if what you’re doing isn’t working.
You CAN have a supported, unmedicated hospital birth!
If you want to know more about building your birth plan, I offer birth plan consultations, childbirth education classes and full doula services! Let’s see what might be the best fit for you!
