Ms. B came to us with a confession. She’d already formed a bad opinion of doctors and she was extremely anxious about needing surgery. She was highly skeptical and burned out by the health care system in general. It was unlikely we would gain her favor, but she chose to put her trust in us anyway. Celebrating a farewell lunch for our youngest and most senior team member! Andrew joined our team from the very beginning, in 2023, with aspirations of becoming a doctor. In just a few days, he graduates from undergraduate studies and will be moving away for medical school!

Earlier this month, we shared how macular degeneration can affect central vision — but what does that actually look like?

One of the early signs of AMD is distortion — straight lines may appear wavy, blurred, or even missing in your central vision.

An Amsler grid is a simple tool that can help detect subtle changes early. To use it:

• Hold the image about 12 inches from your face
• Wear your reading glasses if you normally use them
• Cover one eye at a time
• Focus on the center dot
• Notice if any lines appear wavy, distorted, blurred, or missing

If you notice new distortion, dark spots, or increasing difficulty recognizing faces, it’s important to schedule a comprehensive eye exam.
