Today was my post-op appointment for my shoulder, and I got some good news!

My surgeon told me I'm recovering better than about 90% of people at this stage. As much as I wanted to hear, "You can take the brace off and get right back to the gym!" that wasn't the message.

The message was this: I'm feeling better faster than the repair is healing.

I can train my legs. I can train my left side. I can keep going to physical therapy. I can walk!

But my right arm? It still has a job to do—heal.

So yes... you'll still find me at the gym.

Not because I'm ignoring my recovery, but because movement is part of it. Being around my people fills my cup. Moving my body—even with modifications—helps my brain, keeps my mindset positive, and reminds me that I'm still making progress.

As a coach, I tell my clients all the time that progress is about focusing on what we CAN do consistently.

Now it's my turn to take my own advice.
Healing is training too🩷

Sunday mornings hit different.

Yes, we lift weights. Yes, we get stronger.

But what keeps people coming back week after week isn't just the workout.

It's knowing your friends will be there.
It's the encouragement when you're having an off day.

It's someone handing you a heavier dumbbell because they know you're ready.
It's hearing, "See you next Sunday!" before you leave.

Being part of a team makes it so much easier to stay consistent. You stop dreading the workout and start looking forward to seeing your people.

And when you miss a class? It's not just another workout skipped... your team notices. They check in. They ask where you've been. That kind of accountability is powerful.

If you've been trying to do this alone, maybe it's time to find your people.

I promise, getting stronger is a whole lot more fun together. Join us! 💪

Nothing says "I love you" quite like someone who believes in your goals as much as you do.

Loren has never asked me to skip the gym.
He's never rolled his eyes when I meal prep.
And even after shoulder surgery, he's been right there cheering me on while I work my way back.

Love isn't just date nights.

Sometimes love is making sure the person you care about is still strong enough to enjoy life 20 years from now.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about the stories we tell ourselves.

Right now, I'm recovering from shoulder surgery. I fully expect to get back in the gym and compete again. I have cranky knees, a busy life, and yes...I'm getting closer to retirement from teaching after nearly 30 years.

People assume retirement means slowing down.

I don't.

If I'm being honest, retirement is a little scary. What am I going to do all day?

Then I remember...

I still feel young. I still have a lot of life in me.

I want to travel, coach, keep learning, lift weights, and I want to be the kind of person who says "yes" when life offers me an adventure.

That's why strength training matters so much to me.

It's never been about looking a certain way. (Well, maybe a little 😜) It's about creating a body that lets me live the life I want—for decades to come.

That's also why I challenge the beliefs in this graphic.

You're not too old.
You don't have to wait until you're "100%."
Bad knees don't mean you can't get stronger.
You don't have to be an athlete to start.

You just have to be willing to believe that your best years aren't behind you.

I'm betting mine aren't.

Hi or bye? 👋

I realized that as my business grows, not everyone is going to be my person... and that's okay.

If you're looking for quick fixes, magic pills, or someone to tell you you'll be transformed in 30 days, I'm probably not the coach for you.

But if you're over 45, think you're "too old" to start, are dealing with an injury, or haven't stepped foot in a gym in years—I hope you stick around.

I'm a 54-year-old personal trainer who is also heading into my 30th—and final—year as a high school Spanish teacher. My students are some of the funniest, smartest, most resilient people I know, and I genuinely love what I do. Teaching has shaped the coach I am today, and coaching has made me a better teacher. Helping people believe in themselves has always been my favorite part of both jobs

I believe strength is for everyone. I believe movement is medicine. I believe women and men in their 50s and beyond are just getting started. And I believe it's my job to help you discover what you're capable of—safely.

Oh... and you'll probably see my matching gym outfits, my pugs, and a few behind-the-scenes moments along the way. 😊

So... hi or bye? Are we going to be friends? ❤️💪

Things I think should be trending...

❤️ Making movement part of your recovery plan.

We tend to think recovery means sitting still until everything is "back to normal." But that's rarely the best approach.

After my shoulder surgery, I couldn't train the way I normally do. That didn't mean I stopped moving. I kept walking. I kept doing my physical therapy. I trained my lower body. I worked on mobility and balance. I focused on what I could do instead of what I couldn't.

Movement isn't the enemy of recovery—it can be an important part of it when it's done safely and with the right plan.

If you're recovering from an injury or surgery, don't assume you have to wait until you're 100% before getting back to the gym. There is almost always a way to keep moving.

3 things I wasn't expecting after shoulder surgery...

Nobody really tells you about the little things.

Sure, they tell you you'll be in a sling, you'll have pain, and physical therapy will be a commitment. I expected all of that.

What I wasn't expecting...

😂 1. Hair would become a full-time job.
I can't wash it or style it myself, so blowouts have become a line item in my budget. Messy buns are currently a team sport for me and my husband.

🌿 2. My dogs gave me poison ivy.
Yep. They ran through it, came inside, laid all over me... and somehow I ended up covered in it. That one felt personal.

💩 3. Nobody warned me that anesthesia would completely shut down my digestive system.
Five days. That's all I'll say. If you've been there... you know.

Recovery has been humbling.

I'm used to being the person helping everyone else, lifting heavy things, teaching classes, and being independent. Now I'm learning to ask for help, slow down, celebrate tiny wins, and trust the process.

Every day I get a little more movement back. Every day I'm reminded that healing isn't just physical—it's mental too.

If you've ever had surgery, what's one thing no one warned you about?

💜 Where do you see yourself on the spectrum of health?

I'm currently studying for another credential, and this concept came up in my reading. I immediately thought, "What a great measuring stick."

Health isn't all-or-nothing. Most of us aren't either perfectly healthy or seriously ill. We move along the continuum throughout our lives, and where one state ends and another begins is often gradual.

The good news? There is a pathway toward feeling better.

While we can't control everything that affects our health, we can control some of the biggest drivers of how we feel everyday: how we eat, how much we move, how we manage stress, and the habits we practice consistently.

Small choices do add up.

And sometimes having support makes all the difference. Thats where a coach can be valuable. Not because we have all the answers, but because we help you create a plan, stay accountable, and keep moving in the direction of better health.

Take a look at the graphic and ask yourself: Where am I today? More importantly what is one small thing I can do to move one step closer to thriving?

If you've been feeling stuck and want to start feeling stronger, healthier, and more energized, send me a DM. I'd love to chat.
