STW 5-11 is the 'code name' for Iberogast, an herbal liquid formulation that I've successfully and safely used with patients for over a decade. Clinically I am seeing an explosion of SIBO cases, along with chronic bloating and indigestion. The standard SIBO treatments often result in relapse because the underlying contributors are not addressed, namely related to slow motility. This analysis revealed that during a clinical trial, after just 4 weeks symptoms of early fullness and upper GI pain were significantly improved and there was no difference in side effects between the treatment group and the placebo. I also recommend thoroughly evaluating thyroid function as slow motility can be related to hypothyroidism. Make sure your doctor runs a full thyroid panel, including TSH, T4 free, T3 free, Total and Reverse T3.

The results support that STW 5-II significantly improves FD symptoms after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment with no difference in relation to safety signals compared to placebo. Thus, STW 5-II can be considered an effective and safe treatment option for FD.

The 'calcium paradox' refers to calcium accumulating in the walls of the blood vessels (plaque) instead of finding its way into the bone. We can also see this as a consequence of high dose vitamin D supplementation in the absence of adequate vitamin K2. Always consider adding K2 to your bone and cardiovascular health protocols.
