One year ago this week, I held my book launch and book signing event at Cafe Columbia with my friend Kytu, the owner. It followed the publication of my revised book, The Pause to Relax: A Woman's Guide to Robust Heart Health, after a year of updated research post-pandemic, along with a new cover! It was clear I still needed to get the word out to encourage women to pay attention to stress levels and social connections for heart health, as cardiovascular disease is our #1 life stealer. This gathering of family - son Lance and grandson Josh, along with friends filled my heart as so many joined me to celebrate this unique moment to reveal my newly revised book to empower health. I signed and sold over 35 books, and if you bought one and read it, I would appreciate it if you could go to Amazon and leave a review on my book's page. I currently have all 5 Star reviews, which warms my heart, and NO, they are not all folks I know! What resonates with me is that this topic touches men and women, and it is time to "kick it up a notch" to thrive, not merely survive, to lessen CVD risks. Join me to be part of the solution by sharing this book!!

One year ago this month, I held a book launch/book signing at Cafe Columbia for my newly revised book, The Pause to Relax, a Woman's Guide to Robust Heart Health. It was a packed cafe with many friends and family who came out to celebrate and support my heart health mission. We sold books, gave some away in a raffle, and had a toast to women's heart health awareness. Dr. Lisa Gordon is holding up my book in this photo, with my jockey pic and book in the background. Since this launch, I was fortunate to be on 2 TV spots in the fall and one this year in February, all focused on raising awareness of women's heart health. The reasons for the revision are to update the book with current stats and research on the dire state of women's CVD and their health and wellness. If you have read it, I would appreciate it if you could write a review on Amazon, where it is sold, so that my 5 Star reviews continue. Thanks so much!

On this Earth Day, it's a good reminder that the earth and our bodies are electrical! The negative ions emitted by the Earth may offer some health benefits for all. Studies have shown measurable shifts in cortisol, stress, and sleep levels. Being barefoot on the earth helps balance the autonomic nervous system while improving blood flow. Any natural modality that helps regulate the nervous system's resilience is a simple blessing in disguise. From inflammation and immune response to CVD stats and blood flow, along with reduced cortisol and stress and improved sleep, it is apparent that our Mother Earth can be the community of healing we all need. We simply need to go out and feel her immense peace and comfort.

Many women don’t realize that heart symptoms can look very different than the classic signs we hear about.

I learned this firsthand.

Some early warning signs women should never ignore:
• unusual fatigue
• shortness of breath
• pressure in chest or upper back
• dizziness or nausea

Your heart often whispers before it shouts.

Take a guess.

What percent of all doctors visits are linked to stress?

The American Institute of Stress (stress.org) says the number tops 85% .

Stress impacts us all, and for women, we have evolving demands that may raise the risks of CVD.

Here's the hopeful, good news - lessening stress is attainable with awareness of the toll of emotional burdens.

February is Black History Month. The perfect time to talk about some alarming health statistics that affect the Black community.

Did you know that Black men and women have a higher predisposition to stroke, heart disease and hypertension?

And only 46% of people who suffer from cardiac arrest receive CPR from a bystander, which is 41% less likely if the person is Black or Hispanic.

The American Heart Association with Heartfelt Unity, is raising the bar of awareness within the Black community, beginning with CPR.

During this heart health awareness month, please join me to make a difference in the lives of women! I have partnered with fellow heart health advocate Suzie Jeffreys and her Go Red for Women campaign. We are raising awareness and funds to help get the word out so women don't have to perish from CVD way too early. Purchasing my book, The Pause to Relax, is one way to educate all about the risk factors, but also to gift women with a plan and purpose to thrive.

Thanks in advance for sharing and for donating to enable more women to enhance their health, longevity, and wellness:

Woman of Impact nominees are changemakers using their voices to make a difference. Together they will raise much needed funds, take charge of their health, advocate for all women and change policy.
