Our mission: To protect and serve the public by leading the certification standards in midwifery

The American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) is the national certifying body for candidates in nurse-midwifery and midwifery who have received their graduate level education in programs accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME). Certification by the AMCB is conside

red the gold-standard in midwifery certification and is recognized in all 50 states. Certification protects the public by ensuring that certified individuals have met predetermined criteria for safety in practice. While state licensure provides the legal basis for practice, most states require AMCB certification for licensure, and many institutions require AMCB certification to grant practice privileges.

Did you know that participation in an ACME Accreditation Review will qualify a CNM/CM for 10 contact hours once per certification cycle. A letter from the ACME executive director will be required for verification.

Did you know that if you are a primary author of a chapter in a peer reviewed textbook relevant to midwifery and women's health, you may receive recognition in lieu of 10 contact hours. A photocopy of the published chapter from the textbook is required for documentation. Secondary authors may request 5 hours. Acceptable documentation includes a copy of the document and evidence of the degree of their participation in the development of the chapter. An example of this evidence would be a statement in the publication describing each author’s participation.
