A group of individuals in Zambia had lost the use of their legs. In a 5-minute immersive story, viewers watch as they receive hand-crank mobility carts — and experience freedom of movement for the first time in years.

But it's what happened inside the viewer's brain that caught our attention.

Using a 19-channel EEG, researchers recorded significant changes in gamma brainwaves and heightened activation in brain regions tied to emotional empathy and internal reflection — including the left Insula and Lingual Gyrus.
