If you look like this after a workout—completely soaked in sweat—it’s time for a shower. 🚿💦

This is exactly why I tell my patients that after surgery, showering is not only allowed, it’s encouraged. Keeping your incisions clean is one of the simplest ways to help prevent infection.

No swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, or soaking for 2 weeks after surgery—but please shower.

Your incisions will thank you.

At Fall Creek Falls today, and this is exactly what I mean when I tell patients: no swimming in lakes, pools, hot tubs, rivers, or oceans for at least 2 weeks after surgery.

Even crystal-clear water can contain bacteria that increase the risk of a wound infection while your incision is healing. Giving your body those extra two weeks can help prevent complications and keep your recovery on track.

When in doubt, ask your surgeon before taking the plunge. 🌊🏞️

A**l skin tag removal can often be performed as a same-day outpatient procedure, meaning you go home the very same day. Recovery is typically straightforward, with most patients returning to normal daily activities within a few days. If a**l skin tags are causing discomfort, hygiene issues, or cosmetic concerns, surgical removal may be an effective option. Every patient is different, so we discuss the risks, benefits, and expected recovery before moving forward.

Think a**l skin tags are just hemorrhoids? Not always.

A**l skin tags are common, benign growths that can develop after hemorrhoids, fissures, inflammation, or simply over time. While they’re usually harmless, they can cause irritation, hygiene issues, discomfort, or cosmetic concerns.

The good news? Many can be managed conservatively, and when symptoms persist, removal may be an option.

If you have a lump or bump that’s bothering you, don’t be embarrassed—it’s something we evaluate and treat regularly.

Planning surgery? Don’t plan travel right after. I always recommend staying local for at least 2 weeks after surgery so I can monitor healing, answer questions, and help quickly if any issues come up. A smooth recovery is just as important as the operation itself. Your safety first, always.

Lipomas, cysts, abscesses, hematomas — if it’s bothering you, we can evaluate it and often remove it safely and efficiently. Don’t ignore that “little bump” you’ve been watching for years.

From diagnosis to treatment, we’ve got you covered.

Game day looks a little different around here. Elective surgery day means early mornings, careful planning, teamwork, and taking care of patients from start to finish. Whether I’m operating at Columbia, Lawrenceburg, or Pulaski, the process is always similar — preparation, precision, and a great team behind every case. Grateful to do what I love in all three communities. 🩺💪 ColumbiaTN

Scrub caps say a lot about a person.

Mine today is one I got from Dr. Vertrees—one I wear with pride in the OR. And Nikki? She’s rocking a lemon scrub cap that somehow perfectly matches her energy: bright, positive, and impossible not to smile around.

But what you don’t see behind the caps is everything she does.

Nikki is the engine that keeps our OR running. She’s there early, stays late, and somehow manages to be available at all hours—making sure every case has what it needs before we even realize we need it. She anticipates problems before they happen, fixes things quietly behind the scenes, and does it all with a smile that never seems to fade.

Surgery is a team sport, and people like Nikki are the reason we’re able to do what we do at a high level every single day.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Couldn’t agree more. STRHS Pulaski is a phenomenal place to get care- there’s a reason in bring my elective cases down here! ❤️❤️

Another reminder of the difference compassionate care can make 💙

At Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Pulaski, it’s more than just treating a condition—it’s about supporting our patients through every step of their journey.

We’re grateful for the trust our patients place in us, and we’re especially thankful for our dedicated team who continue to show up with skill, kindness, and heart each and every day. That’s what makes moments like these possible.
