All about me was all sorts of fun!

Have you played Simon Says before? During Pirate Week at Kangaroo Journeys we played a little game called "Cap'n Says", as pirate rendition of Simon Says while walking a plank! The kids had a lot of fun following Cap'n orders and listening carefully so not to get tricked!

During group sessions last week, we made Pirate Puppets! This activity is great for the kiddos as it encourages them to work together, share supplies, and come up with creative color combination to make their unique characters. It also allows them to refine their fine motor, listening, and advocation skills.

One of the first conversations we have with every new Kangaroo Journeys family in Central Ohio:

"Is your home safe for your autistic child?"

Not to scare you — but because safety is the foundation for everything else we build together.

Here's what every autism family in Columbus should know:

🚪 Wandering & Elopement (the #1 risk)
→ Install window wedges — limit openings to 4 inches
→ Apply for a Big Red Safety Box alarm (free through the Ohio AG's office)

💧 Water Safety
→ Specialized swim protocols — standard lessons aren't always enough
→ Add extra locks to bathroom doors

🚗 Transit Safety
→ BuckleRoo or Buckle Boss seatbelt locks for children who unbuckle
→ Ohio BMV Disability Plates for law enforcement communication in emergencies

🪪 Identification
→ Wearable ID devices + QR code "If I Need Help" patches
→ Register your child with your local first responder database

At Kangaroo Journeys, safety education is woven into everything we do — both in our Westerville center and in your home through our hybrid ABA model. Because a child who is safe is a child who can grow. 💚

💬 Which of these is your biggest concern right now? Tell us below — our team reads every comment.

If your autistic child in Columbus or Central Ohio is starting ABA therapy — you deserve to know exactly who's in the room and why it works.

Most families walk in not knowing the difference between a BCBA and an RBT. Here's the simple version:

👩‍⚕️ BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst)
→ Drives your child's entire treatment program
→ Analyzes data, updates goals, and provides 1-2 hours of weekly oversight
→ The clinical brain behind every decision

🧡 RBT (Registered Behavior Technician)
→ Works 1:1 with your child in every single session
→ Implements the plan, builds skills, celebrates every step forward
→ The consistent, trusted face your child sees every day

And here's how ABA actually works:
✅ Modify the environment so learning is possible
✅ Harness YOUR child's natural motivation — not a cookie-cutter method
✅ Break complex skills into small, repeatable steps
✅ Use real-time data to make every decision

At Kangaroo Journeys, our hybrid ABA model means this team connects what your child learns in our Westerville center directly to your home in Columbus, Gahanna, New Albany, and beyond.

Because skills only matter when they show up in real life. 💚

Your autistic child isn't behind. They're on a different timeline — and with the right support, they catch up in ways that will amaze you.

Academic delays are one of the most common concerns we hear from families across Columbus and Central Ohio. The gap feels so big. The pressure from school feels real. And the worry is exhausting.

Here's what we know at Kangaroo Journeys:

✅ Autistic children learn — differently, not less
✅ Skills like numbers, letters, and sequencing can be taught through play and repetition in natural settings
✅ ABA breaks every concept into small, manageable steps — no frustration, just progress
✅ Data-driven teaching means we adjust in real time to what YOUR child responds to

Our hybrid ABA model works with kids in Westerville, Gahanna, New Albany, and across Central Ohio — connecting what's learned in our center to what's practiced at home, at the kitchen table, during bath time, on the way to school.

Because learning doesn't stop when the session ends. 💚

💬 What's one skill you wish your child could master right now? Tell us below — we'd love to help.

Most people think ABA therapy means sitting at a table with flashcards.

It doesn't — not at Kangaroo Journeys.

This is what learning can look like for an autistic child in Central Ohio. Unstructured. Child-led. On the floor. Playing.

Play-based ABA is built on a simple but powerful truth: children — especially autistic children — learn best when they're engaged, motivated, and in their natural environment.

When your child reaches for a toy, sorts shapes, or stacks pieces, they're not just playing. They're:
🧠 Building problem-solving pathways
🤝 Practicing turn-taking and communication
💪 Developing fine motor and sensory tolerance
🌱 Growing confidence in their own abilities

At Kangaroo Journeys, our naturalistic, play-based ABA model meets kids where they are — in Columbus, Westerville, Gahanna, New Albany, and across Central Ohio.

Not at a table. In their world.

💚 Save this if you've ever been told your autistic child "just needs to sit still and focus."
