DPC for the win. Patient had a persistent foreign body sensation in finger for several weeks. This 6 mm splinter was found imbedded straight down into finger at a 90 degree angle.

Tis the season-check for ticks daily when spending time outdoors!

Ticks can be THIS TINY 🤯🤯

Even the smallest ticks can cause big problems, having the potential to spread a multitude of diseases to humans. As the weather warms up, you may begin seeing ticks in grassy or wooded areas. Protect yourself by using bug repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants in wooded areas, and checking for ticks after being outside.

This week we welcomed our April student, Kyra Wilson. Kyra grew up in Louisiana and came back to her parents’ roots to attend Purdue for her undergraduate studies. She is currently a 3rd year medical student at Marian and plans to pursue a career in emergency medicine. Kyra has jumped right to the variety of procedures we do at Sage Direct Care, and we are thankful to have her!

March may be almost over.. but at Sage Direct Care we are always trying to spread awareness of Colon Cancer Prevention & Awareness. Here are 5 things you should know:
1. Colorectal cancer is often preventable and treatable-through screening measures like colonoscopies, which can detect and remove precancerous polyps.
2. Average risk adults should begin screening at age 45.
3. 1 in 5 cases is diagnosed before the age of 54, making awareness and early screening crucial
4. High risk factors include smoking, high processed/low fiber diet, obesity, and excessive alcohol use. Knowing your family history is important as well.
5. Screening options DO exist! Colonoscopies are recommended for high risk individuals (and not nearly what you might fear), but other stool-based testing may be an option for you.
Please don’t let fear or embarrassment stop you from taking to your doctor about this important screening-awareness saves lives 💙
