Physicians CareConnection Our Mission:
Dedicated to Optimizing the Health of Those Most Vulnerable in Central Ohio Some of the programs include:

The Physicians CareConnection (PCC), formerly Physicians Free Clinic/Voluntary Care Network (PFC/VCN), is the largest coordinator of voluntary health care services in Central Ohio with over 1000 primary/specialty care doctors and 13 hospitals participating. PCC connects low-income, uninsured residents with medical homes and improves access (reduce delays) to specialty care. The PCC care coordination model address the needs of patients as they navigate the health care system and work to provide them with the resources necessary to obtain appropriate health care services. Primary Care: Patients are able to receive primary care through our Monday nights walk-in free clinic, operated at the Columbus Public Health department on; 240 Parsons Avenue, Columbus, OH 43215, from 5:00pm. The clinic serves as a “bridge” or a gateway into the health care system for people who do not have a primary care doctor.

2. Voluntary Care Network: PCC clients are able to access specialty care through a decentralized or “virtual” network of providers.

3. Preventative Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative: In partnership with the Ohio Gastroenterology Group, patients who are uninsured, 50 years and older, asymptomatic and never had prior screening, receive a screening colonoscopy at no charge.

4. OSU Eye Free Clinic: PCC coordinates the ophthalmology clinic at the OSU Havener Eye Institute for patients with serious eye illness or injury.

5. Dental CareConnection: The dental clinic also operated at the Columbus Public Health department on 240 Parsons Avenue, provides tooth extractions restorative and denture services to those without dental insurance coverage.

6. STEPONE for a Healthy Pregnancy: An Intake and Referral program that connects pregnant women with affordable, timely and convenient prenatal care and resources for a healthy pregnancy.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an important reminder of the role physicians play in helping patients stay up to date on recommended screenings, understand diagnoses, and navigate treatment.

This month, the Columbus Medical Association recognizes the physicians and healthcare teams supporting patients at every stage, and the importance of continued conversations around screening, early detection, and equitable access to care.

September is Women in Medicine Month, a time to celebrate the women physicians who care for our communities, lead change, and help shape the future of medicine.

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Laura Espy-Bell, MD. Dr. Espy-Bell serves as System Medical Chief of Health Equity for OhioHealth, is a practicing emergency medicine physician, and is also the founder of Made for Medicine.

Dr. Espy-Bell has long been passionate about representation in medicine and creating opportunities for the next generation. In 2021, she founded Made for Medicine to introduce and prepare young people for careers in medicine through hands-on learning, mentorship, academic enrichment, and access to physician role models.

Her work is helping more young people see what’s possible and is building a stronger, more representative future for medicine.

During Women in Medicine Month, we celebrate Dr. Espy-Bell and the many women physicians using their voices, leadership, and experience to make a difference in our community and beyond.

This Chronic Disease Day, PCC is recognizing the importance of prevention and care coordination for those living with long-term health conditions. Thanks to support from the Columbus Medical Association Foundation, PCC continues to connect patients with the healthcare professionals they need.
