It's that time of year, especially with all the recent storm damage. If you've been cleaning up trees, it's likely you have been exposed to poison ivy. So if you have been removing brush and suddenly find yourself with a rash within the next couple of days, it's likely poison ivy. What is poison ivy??
Poison ivy is a type of allergenic plant in the genus Toxicodendron which is native to East Asia and North America.
Treatment: Apply an over-the-counter cortisone cream or ointment (Cortizone 10) for the first few days. Apply calamine lotion or creams containing menthol. Take oral antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), which may also help you sleep better.
