After serving our country in the U.S. Navy, Terese never expected that affording her medications would become a challenge.

Living on Social Security and managing asthma and severe allergies, she struggled to afford the medications she needed each day. Through Charitable Pharmacy, Terese now has consistent access to her prescriptions—allowing her to focus on her health instead of the cost.

"Everything is going up in price… I'm finally able to afford what I need."

For many older adults, medication errors aren't just inconvenient—they can lead to serious health complications, falls, hospitalization, and loss of independence.

During Elder Abuse Awareness Month, we encourage families, caregivers, and healthcare providers to stay vigilant. Medication safety is an important part of protecting the health, dignity, and well-being of older adults.

Here are a few ways to help:
💊 Keep an up-to-date medication list
📋 Review medications regularly with a healthcare provider
⏰ Use pill organizers and medication reminders
🗣️ Ask questions if instructions are unclear
❤️ Check in regularly on aging loved ones

If you suspect an older adult may be experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation, or self-neglect, help is available. In Franklin County, reports can be made to the Franklin County Office on Aging Adult Protective Services at (614) 525-4341.

At Charitable Pharmacy, care goes beyond dispensing medications.

Every day, we work one-on-one with patients to help them understand their medications, stay on track with treatment, and overcome barriers that impact their health. Through personalized support, patient education, our Food as Medicine program, and connections to community resources, we help individuals build healthier, more stable lives.

This approach is making a real difference. The average patient relies on our team 7 times each year for ongoing support and care.

Because our patients are more than prescriptions—they're our neighbors, friends, veterans, parents, and community members.

When Rebecca lost her job and health insurance, affording the medications she needed for asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure became nearly impossible. She began skipping doses and went without her inhalers entirely because of the cost.

Today, Rebecca has consistent access to the medications she needs to manage her health and breathe easier.

"I am feeling a whole lot better … I can take the medications I need like I am supposed to."
