Marya Cardona Barrios is a yoga teacher, Reiki Master, musician, and founder of SANAR Yoga + Mindfulness.
With over a decade of teaching experience, she specializes in trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive yoga, mindfulness, somatic movement, breathwork, meditation, and practices that support healing, resilience, self-awareness, and personal growth.
Born in Venezuela and raised in an artistic family of dancers and creators, Marya began playing the cello at age twelve and practicing yoga at sixteen. Her exploration of movement deepened through martial arts, fitness, Tai Chi, and Qigong. What began as a physical practice gradually became a lifelong path of supporting healing, connection, and self-discovery.
Marya graduated from Oberlin College in 2011 with a degree in Technology in Music and Related Arts. Her background in music continues to influence her teaching through an appreciation for rhythm, vibration, breath, and the power of sound to support presence, reflection, and well-being.
Her approach draws from years of study in yoga, trauma-informed practices, mindfulness, martial arts, dance, Reiki, and somatic movement. She is a Reiki Master, a certified Tai Chi and Qigong instructor, holds a black belt in Shuai Chiao (Chinese wrestling), and has taught aerial yoga since 2018.
In addition to founding SANAR Yoga + Mindfulness, Marya co-founded Alive MVMT, a community-based aerial yoga and wellness studio in Central Ohio, where she helped develop programs, mentor instructors, and co-lead aerial yoga teacher trainings.
Since 2013, Marya has taught thousands of classes and workshops in both English and Spanish, serving people of all ages through educational, community, wellness, and behavioral health programs.
Whether working with individuals, groups, schools, nonprofits, corporations, healthcare organizations, or senior communities, studios, her intention is to create experiences that foster connection, resilience, and meaningful care.
Marya believes that healing begins with awareness, grows through connection, and is strengthened through community.
