The first clue may be in your results—not how you feel.

Liver disease can progress quietly. Many people with fatty liver or liver fibrosis feel completely well while liver scarring develops.

The warning may already be present in:

• Fatty liver reported on an ultrasound or CT
• Persistently elevated liver enzymes
• Type 2 diabetes or multiple metabolic risk factors
• Low platelets or abnormal fibrosis testing

None of these findings automatically means cirrhosis. But they may indicate that the liver deserves a closer evaluation.

Have you ever been told:

“You have fatty liver.”

“Your liver enzymes are elevated.”

Do not panic—but do not ignore it.

Fatty liver disease can be silent. Many people feel completely well while inflammation and liver scarring gradually develop.

Cirrhosis simply means advanced scarring of the liver. It does not happen to everyone with fatty liver, but when it develops, symptoms may not appear until significant damage has already occurred.

You should consider a liver evaluation if:

• An ultrasound or CT showed fatty liver
• Your ALT, AST, or other liver tests remain elevated
• You have type 2 diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, or metabolic syndrome
• You have been told your platelet count is low
• You have a family history of liver disease

A liver evaluation can help determine why your tests are abnormal and whether fibrosis—or liver scarring—is present.

Normal liver enzymes do not always exclude significant liver disease.
