We Care Services for Children

We Care Services for Children We support young children (and their families) with early intervention and mental health services.

Our early intervention programs help families deal with the developmental, behavioral, emotional, and educational needs of young children. Focusing on developmental and/or mental health needs, we offer treatment, support, and education for children with -- or at risk for -- life-impacting delays. We help children and families increase independence and learning, improve school readiness, and decrease the need for special services later in life.

We Care is honored to have been selected by the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation as a 2026 grant recipient. For more than two decades, the Kiwanis have supported We Care’s work with children and families in our community, and we could not be more grateful for their continued partnership. This week, Erica Williamson, We Care’s Director of Community Engagement, had the privilege of accepting the grant at the Foundation’s annual awards breakfast, where We Care was honored to be recognized alongside so many incredible nonprofit organizations and community members doing meaningful work throughout our community.

We Care was honored to attend Monument Crisis Center's Annual Resource Fair, a wonderful community event that brought together local organizations to share resources ranging from legal and medical services to youth and family support programs. It was a wonderful reminder of what can happen when people come together for community, by community.

So much of what we do at We Care is based on the understanding that mental health begins in early childhood. During Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that early support can change the trajectory of a child’s life. Early intervention not only helps children and families navigate challenges in the moment, but also reduces the need for more intensive services later on. Through our mental health and developmental services, We Care helps children and families understand behaviors, build connection, and support long-term well-being.

The work We Care does with vulnerable children and families would not be possible without the support of our community. Recently, We Care’s Executive Director, Pete Caldwell, had the opportunity to speak with the Pleasant Hill Rotary Club about We Care’s services and the impact of early intervention mental health services for young children and families. Additionally, Director of Community Engagement, Erica Williamson, attended the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation’s Community Celebration event, where local nonprofits and community members were recognized, and accepted a generous grant on behalf of We Care.

We are so grateful to both the Pleasant Hill Rotary Club and the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation for their support of We Care and for all the ways they continue to strengthen our community.

During Teacher Appreciation Week, We Care is proud to recognize—and so lucky to have—the incredible teachers who make such a lasting difference in the lives of the young children in our classrooms. Through their patience, care, and dedication, they help children learn, grow, build confidence, and feel safe each day. We are deeply grateful for all they bring to their classrooms and to the children and families we serve. We are thankful for everything they do.

It’s National Volunteer Week—a time to recognize those who give their time and talents to support our mission. For over sixty years, volunteers have been at the heart of We Care, strengthening our programs and keeping us connected to the community we serve. We appreciate the community groups, corporate partners, and staff family members who help make such a meaningful difference at our events. We are also deeply grateful for our Board of Directors—Simi, Marc, Iona, Bob, Dirk, Glenn, Jeff, Kazuo, Linsey, Mike and Surita—who guide our organization and connect us to critical resources, and to Joy, our longtime volunteer editor, who brings care and clarity to the words we share. Thank you for all you do for the children and families we serve.

As part of our Week of the Young Child celebrations, We Care’s preschoolers and toddlers in our Beyond Boundaries program enjoyed a special visit from local band, The Osada 3. The talented sibling trio—O on guitar, Mo on cajón, and Zo on keys—filled the air with music as the children sang, danced, and explored rhythm and sound together. A big thank you to The Osada 3 for sharing their time and talent with us, and for enriching our community with music and joy.
