On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, past and present. We are especially grateful for the Native American children and families in our community, whose presence, stories, and traditions enrich us all.

At We Care, we believe every child’s heritage deserves to be celebrated and every family should feel truly welcomed, valued, and at home. Today, we invite our community to learn more about Indigenous histories and cultures and reflect on how we can help create a more respectful and inclusive future for the generations to come.

We are excited to share that we hosted our very first We Care Staff Wellness Fair this month. The event was intended to create a way for our incredible and caring team to connect, recharge and explore a multitude of ways to support their own holistic well-being. We’re so grateful to R.C. Fischer & Co., Cal Choice, Lift for Life, Resistance Gym, Bay Area Harvest, Reiki Purple Light Healing & Coaching, Abbie O'Toole, Healthy Living Advisor, Brian O'Toole, Estate Planning Attorney, Aflac, Pacific Service CU, Legal Shield, and We Care's IDEA group for spending the afternoon with us and sharing their time, resources and expertise with our staff. And a big thank you to Debbie Neely, We Care’s Director of HR, for organizing such a meaningful event. Taking care of the people who care so deeply for the children and families we serve matters to us, and we loved having the opportunity to celebrate and support them.

We are so grateful to the Women’s Empowerment & Charity Club (WECC) at Diablo Valley College for choosing We Care for their very first service project! Club members handcrafted sensory calm-down bottles for our classrooms and therapy programs. The amount of thought, time and care that went into creating something so special for the children we serve is deeply appreciated. Thank you to Mandy Yu and the WECC members for your generosity and for supporting at-risk young children in our community!

Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month gives us the chance to celebrate the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Hispanic communities, including so many of the children, families, staff and neighbors who are part of We Care. While this month is a celebration, it’s also a reminder that many families continue to face very real challenges and barriers. That makes our commitment to supporting children and families—and ensuring they can access the services they need—even more critical.

This month and every day, We Care is proud to stand with our Hispanic staff, children, families and community.

Free books, storytime, a cozy place to be a kid—all for free That's exactly the kind of access We Care believes every family deserves. Early literacy is one of the biggest building blocks for a child's development, and a library card is one of the simplest ways to make books and reading part of everyday life.

Even though it may feel as if your kids have settled into the school year routine, sometimes feelings that arise from those big transitions can linger. We Care knows that support doesn't stop after the first week back. Elmo and friends have a whole collection of games, songs and videos to help kids build confidence, manage big feelings and keep learning all year long.

This is a question that comes up often in our work—how early can mental health challenges begin? Too often, early signs are dismissed or families are told to “wait and see,” even when a parent knows something doesn’t feel quite right. At We Care, we know that noticing patterns early and seeking support can make a meaningful difference for children and families.

A new little library has found a home with our Mental Health Services team, thanks to Tandem, Partners in Early Learning. The books donated explore many of the topics children and families we serve may be navigating, while also supporting early learning, language, social-emotional development, and a love of reading. The shelves are just getting started, with more books still to come.

Thank you, Tandem, for this thoughtful donation and for helping put meaningful, educational books into the hands of local families.
