In collaboration with the Medical Advisory Board, HAPS is hosting a community Research Fair May 30th at 9 AM at the United Way. Hear from local experts and researchers, learn more about current and future research taking place in our area and find out how science is advancing in the field of Parkinson's disease. Get your questions answered and visit with clinicians and researchers from Baylor, Houston Methodist, Rice University, UT, the VA, and more.

*Balance Reactions* Challenging the fighters balance in the Sagittal plane (Front/Back) on dynamic surfaces to use Ankle Strategy to regain their balance. Training them for summer activities on the grass, playgrounds with their grandchildren, on a boat, and when at the beach.

Up-training our Proprioception and Sensory System: Working on walking on unlevel, soft and unpredictable surfaces that we all deal with if outside. (Battle rope placed under mat)

Falls Happen Unfortunately. Part of our program focuses on practicing and educating our fighters on how to fall safely with good form to protect themselves from a critical injury.

Tips for Falling Forward (when not able to squat and roll with it)

1. Turn your head to the Left or Right (This is crucial in case you aren’t able to get your hands out to protect your head)

2. Keep your elbows bent at 90deg with the palms open in front of your face (making a diamond with your index fingers and your thumbs)

3. Land on your forearms with your wrists in neutral in a relaxed position; Do NOT stiffen up and try and break your fall by bending your wrist or reaching out with a straight arm. This will cause an injury.
