I’m naturally skeptical when it comes to performance products. A good marketing story isn’t enough. I want to know what the science says, and I want to know what people are actually experiencing.

One patient told me that after using LactiGo before training, he didn’t suddenly feel stronger. He simply felt like he could keep going when he normally would have started fading.

That stood out to me.

One person’s experience isn’t proof. But when real-world feedback starts lining up with emerging research on topical carnosine and repeated high-intensity performance, that’s when I pay attention.

LactiGo doesn’t replace training, nutrition, hydration, sleep, or recovery.

It’s about helping you get more from the work you’re already doing.

Protein is everywhere right now, and overall, I’m glad we’re talking about it. Adequate protein becomes increasingly important as we age, especially if you’re strength training, actively losing weight, or using a GLP-1 and trying to preserve lean muscle.

But more isn’t automatically better.

Your ideal protein intake depends on your age, body size, activity level, training, calorie intake, and goals. And protein shouldn’t replace fiber, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, or overall diet quality.

Don’t ask, “How much protein can I eat?”
Ask, “How much does MY body actually need?”

At Core Health, nutrition, muscle mass, metabolism, hormones, and body composition all matter when we’re looking at long-term health. And when hormone support is appropriate, we’re also a Biote HRT provider, allowing us to include hormone optimization as part of a more personalized approach to care.

Hair shedding while taking a GLP-1 doesn’t automatically mean the medication is damaging your hair.

Rapid weight loss, eating too few calories, inadequate protein, and nutrient deficiencies can all put stress on the body and contribute to telogen effluvium, a temporary form of hair shedding that may show up months after the initial trigger.

When this happens, I look at the bigger picture: protein intake, calories, iron and ferritin, B12, vitamin D, folate, thyroid health, and how quickly the patient is losing weight.

Our approach to GLP-1 therapy, metabolic health, and care as a BioTE HRT provider is about helping patients lose fat while protecting muscle, nutrition, energy, and overall health.

Menthol or non-menthol LactiGo? The answer really comes down to how you want it to feel. Both versions contain topical carnosine and magnesium. The biggest difference is the cooling sensation from menthol.

Menthol activates cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin, which can change how you perceive heat and discomfort during hard training. That can make it especially appealing for hot-weather workouts, running, cycling, HYROX, or long endurance sessions.

Prefer no cooling sensation or have sensitive skin? The non-menthol version may be the better fit.

One isn’t necessarily “better.” They’re simply different options depending on your workout and personal preference.

“GLP-1 microdosing” gets a lot of attention online, but it isn't a standardized medical dosing protocol. The goal should be an individualized dose that balances results, tolerability, nutrition, muscle preservation, and quality of life.

At Core Health & Wellness, our approach to GLP-1 therapy, metabolic health, and care as an HRT provider is personalized to the patient not based on how quickly we can reach the highest dose.

The goal isn't maximum medication. It's the appropriate amount for you.

If you only reach for LactiGo after you're already sore, you may be missing an important part of how athletes are using it.

For performance, timing matters.

In a study of world-class Rugby Sevens athletes, topical carnosine gel was applied about 40–45 minutes BEFORE repeated high-intensity sprints. The athletes produced significantly greater peak power during several sprints compared with placebo.

That's why I think of LactiGo as part of the pre-performance routine not just something to reach for afterward.

For running, HYROX, CrossFit, or other demanding training, apply it to the muscles you'll be using most before the hard effort.

You can still use LactiGo after training as part of your recovery routine.

Don't just think recovery. Think performance.

Low testosterone can affect much more than s*x drive. Changes in energy, strength, muscle mass, body fat, recovery, mood, and bone health can all be part of the picture.

But feeling tired or unmotivated doesn't automatically mean testosterone is the problem. Poor sleep, sleep apnea, thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, nutrient deficiencies, stress, and overtraining can cause very similar symptoms.

That's why I don't treat a testosterone number in isolation. I look at symptoms, total and free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, and the bigger metabolic picture.

Hormone optimization should start with understanding WHY you don't feel like yourself. My approach as an HRT provider is to evaluate the whole patient, not just chase a lab number.

If something feels off, call our office to schedule a consultation.

GLP-1 weight-loss medications are entering a new era: oral options.

For patients who hate needles, an FDA-approved oral GLP-1 may remove a major barrier to treatment.

The right option depends on the patient, their goals, tolerability, and the evidence behind the medication.

At Core Health & Wellness, our approach to GLP-1 therapy, metabolic health, and our work as a BioTE HRT provider is centered on choosing the right treatment for the individual, not simply what's newest.

Most people hear “carnosine” and think muscle performance. But new research is looking at another tissue entirely: the heart.

Researchers found that human heart tissue contains the enzymes and transporters needed to handle carnosine and beta-alanine metabolism. Cardiac cells were also able to take up carnosine and accumulate it inside the cell.

That’s interesting because it suggests carnosine may have important biological roles beyond skeletal muscle.

Important distinction: this does NOT prove carnosine prevents heart disease or improves cardiovascular performance. This was mechanistic research, not a clinical outcome trial.

But this is how promising areas of longevity research begin: first the mechanism, then the human outcomes.

Carnosine is a molecule I’m watching very closely.

Unlike semaglutide, which primarily targets GLP-1, or tirzepatide, which targets GLP-1 + GIP, retatrutide targets three pathways: GLP-1 + GIP + glucagon.

Early Phase 3 results are impressive, but here's the part social media often skips: retatrutide is still investigational and is not FDA approved.

That means the vial being sold online as “retatrutide” is not the same as an approved medication from Eli Lilly.

Being cutting-edge doesn’t mean abandoning standards. At Core Health & Wellness, our approach to peptide therapy and metabolic health and our work as an HRT provider is grounded in evidence, proper sourcing, and what’s appropriate for the individual patient, not hype.
