On World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we're highlighting the important role hospice and palliative care play in helping patients and families navigate serious illness.

Both hospice and palliative care focus on comfort, quality of life and support, helping patients receive care that aligns with their goals and wishes. Palliative care can begin at diagnosis and alongside treatment. Hospice care is typically chosen when treatment is no longer working or a patient decides to stop curative treatment for a terminal illness, shifting the focus to comfort, quality of life and support for both the patient and their loved ones.

At Amedisys, we developed Code Green to ensure no patient transitions alone in their final days. This protocol activates an increased rotation of visits from our hospice team of nurses, aides, social workers and chaplains to address all the needs of the patient as they near end of life.
