It's time we stopped with the propaganda and start talking instead about
Let's break down some of the most common reasons given for reducing meat consumption.
🌎 Bad for the environment...not entirely true. CAFOs are bad for the environment, yes. Industrial ag is bad for the environment, contributing more than 1 trillion lbs of greenhouse gas emmissions to the atmosphere globally/year. But on the other hand using ruminants gives more to the earth than it takes & has the ability to transform otherwise inarable land to land that provides sustenance for humans through meat. Did you know that using these practices with ruminants ranchers can BUILD topsoil while sequestering carbon? Meanwhile topsoil is a disappearing resource in industrial farming practices. No dirt, no food.
☠ Bad for your health. Please can we stop with this one. First of all, meat, including organs, are among the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. Period. AND there are exactly zero traditional cultures around the world that eat no animal products as part of their ancestral diets. Properly sourced meat IS a health food.
🐄 ...But animals die! Aaaand animals die in an industrial sized field of wheat, corn, soy, etc from tilling & other equipment being driven across the field. Bunnies, reptiles, baby deer & momma doe. Dead. So, unless you're growing all of your own food & not killing anything in the process, animals die for your
We don't need , we need And a more thorough, intelligent conversation on this important topic. Less meat is an incomplete cop-out that ignores the successes of organizations like who are helping ranchers turn previously inarable land into lush green pastures...using cows!
