Did you know that October is National Farm to School Month?! It's the perfect time to celebrate all the Farm to School programs and our local agriculture!

This celebration is thanks to the National Farm to School Network, who not only support Farm to School nation-wide, but also provide resources to help us celebrate. If you visit their site you can learn all about them and what they do! https://www.farmtoschool.org/ You can also find materials like activities, posters, bookmarks, and stickers like the ones pictured here! Use this link to find them. https://www.farmtoschool.org/our-work/farm-to-school-month

So how will you celebrate? Visit your local farmstand or farmers market? Harvest the last of your crops from your garden? Make a delicious fall themed dinner? However you celebrate, be sure to thank your local farmers and producers, they grow our food and help feed our families!

Fall is here! the leaves are changing; the air is cooler and one of New York's most popular products is in season - Apples! 🍎🍏 So naturally, apples are our Harvest of the Month for October, and Cooperstown Central School District started the month off strong with their first taste test of the year on Friday!

Students got to enjoy apple slices along with a honey yogurt dip. The kids loved it! They liked it so much that I ran out of copies of the recipe for the kids to take home! So, I said I would share it here.

The dip is super easy to make and only needs 3 ingredients:

10 oz Honey Vanilla Greek Yogurt
1 tbsp Honey
1/8 tsp Cinnamon

Mix together in a bowl and enjoy! Cover and store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days. If you don't have honey vanilla greek yogurt, you can use vanilla and add a little extra honey. And when you are ready to serve it, you need:

3 Apples - cored and cut into wedges. If you want to keep them from browing, toss the apple slices with a little lemon juice!

This is a great fall themed healthy snack for any occasion from after school to a Halloween party! Would you try this snack at home? Let us know your favorite way to eat apples in the comments!

It's official, we've had our last taste test for the school year! Today students at Gilbertsville - Mount Upton Central School District tried out a caramelized onion and garlic dip, and they thought it was pretty good!

This recipe is a little time consuming due to having to cook the garlic and onions ahead of time, but I think it was worth it! This would be a great addition to any party table. Using whole bulbs of garlic, yellow onion and shallots, you definitely get a lot of flavor!

If you want to try this dip out at home, the recipe we used is linked below!

We'll see you all again next year! But if you want to see what Farm to School does over the summer, give us a like and a follow so you don't miss out!

It's June! Which means students are counting down the days until summer vacation, but before they go, students at Schenevus Central School had one last taste test today!

This month we are featuring Garlic & Onions. So today we had students try some homemade garlic hummus served with carrots! They thought it was pretty good, but I don't think it was their favorite taste test this year.

Hummus is a popular addition to veggie platters at a party, but have you ever made it from scratch? Hummus is ground up chickpeas that can be different flavors depending on what else you add to it. There are tons of recipes available, so if you are a fan of hummus, you can try making it at home!

Have a great summer! And be sure to like and follow our page to keep up with our summer adventures!
