GLP-1s are no longer just about weight loss.
They’re reshaping how we think about metabolism, brain health, inflammation, and longevity.

And the most important conversations are just getting started.

Join us for an evening where clinical insight meets real-world application:

AN EVENING OF INNOVATION IN OBESITY MEDICINE
📍 Prime Institute | Coral Gables
🗓️ June 10th

This expert panel will explore:
• GLP-1s in IBD & anti-inflammatory nutrition — Dr. Oriana Damas
• GLP-1s and brain health, cognition, and dementia risk — Dr. David Filippi
• The synergy between GLP-1 therapy & hormone replacement therapy — Michelle Pearlman, MD

Expect a high-yield, clinically grounded discussion on how these therapies are evolving across specialties — from gastroenterology to neurology to menopause care.

Networking. Thoughtful conversation. Practical takeaways you can actually use in practice.

This is where metabolic medicine intersects with brain health, gut health, and hormones.

GLP-1s aren’t just changing weight loss…
they’re forcing us to rethink brain health, gut inflammation, and women’s health in midlife.

We’re seeing early signals that these medications may:
• Reduce neuroinflammation + improve insulin signaling in the brain
• Potentially lower dementia risk in real-world data
• Improve inflammatory pathways in patients with IBD
• Work synergistically with hormone therapy to preserve lean mass and optimize body composition

Translation: this is one of the most important—and complex—areas in medicine right now.

Join us for a deeper, clinically grounded conversation:

• Dr. Oriana Damas → GLP-1s in IBD + anti-inflammatory nutrition
• Dr. David Filippi → Latest research on GLP-1s in brain health & dementia
• Michelle Pearlman, MD → GLP-1 + hormone therapy synergy (menopause, visceral fat, muscle preservation)

📍 Prime Institute, Coral Gables
🗓️ Networking | Expert Panel | Q&A | Light bites

If you’re in healthcare, this is where metabolic medicine meets neurology, GI, and hormones.

Sleep apnea is hiding in plain sight in obesity care—and we’re missing it.

Shoutout to one of our Florida Obesity Society board members, .jeremy , for highlighting a critical gap in clinical practice.

Key takeaways:
→ Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) doesn’t always present “classically”
→ Women may present with insomnia and fatigue—not just snoring
→ Younger patients and diverse populations (including BIPOC) are often under-recognized

And here’s the clinical opportunity:
✔️ Normalize screening in obesity clinics
✔️ Treat OSA as a core component of metabolic health
✔️ Emphasize benefits beyond sleep—energy, mood, and overall function

Because untreated OSA:
→ Worsens cardiometabolic risk
→ Impairs weight loss outcomes
→ Impacts quality of life

If we’re not screening for it—we’re missing a major piece of the puzzle.

A weight plateau does NOT equal treatment failure.

In obesity care, we need to move beyond the scale and toward a more evidence-based, physiology-driven approach.

When patients plateau, the clinical framework is simple:
→ Reassess lifestyle foundations (protein, resistance training, sleep, adherence)
→ Optimize pharmacotherapy (dose, duration, adherence)
→ Reevaluate health gains (cardiometabolic risk, function, quality of life)

Most importantly:
A true “non-responder” is defined as failure to lose ≥5% of body weight AFTER reaching a therapeutic dose and adequate duration of treatment—not at arbitrary early time points.

Patients often continue to experience meaningful metabolic and clinical benefits—even when weight stabilizes.

Time to redefine success in obesity medicine.

Real conversations > scripted messaging.

Had a great meetup with leadership from Novo Nordisk alongside my fellow Florida Obesity Society Board of Directors—and this is exactly where meaningful progress happens.

When clinicians and industry leaders sit at the same table, we move beyond theory and into real-world impact. We’re talking about what’s actually happening in practice: patient outcomes, challenges with adherence, muscle preservation, long-term sustainability, and how we optimize care beyond just prescriptions.

Because obesity is not just about weight—it’s about biology, behavior, environment, and access. And it requires collaboration across all fronts.

Grateful to be part of these conversations that are shaping the future of obesity medicine. .jeremy

Tired of hearing “just eat less, move more”… and still not getting answers?

Weight is not a willpower problem—it’s biology, hormones, environment, and behavior all interacting in ways most people were never taught to understand.

That’s exactly why is excited to be part of the Your Weight Matters National Convention this July.

This is where science replaces stigma.
Where you learn the why behind your weight.
And where evidence-based strategies meet real-world application.

We’re talking:
✔️ The latest in obesity medicine and metabolic health
✔️ Nutrition strategies that actually support muscle + longevity
✔️ Medications (including GLP-1s) explained the right way
✔️ A community that gets it—no judgment, just education and support

If you’re serious about understanding your body and optimizing your health—not just chasing a number on the scale—this is the room you want to be in.

Not all walks are created equal.

This one is about changing the future of obesity care.

On March 7 in Trinity, FL, the TREO Foundation’s Walk + Fun Run brought together patients, providers, and the community to raise awareness, advance research, and improve access to evidence-based obesity treatment.

Obesity is not a lifestyle choice—it’s a chronic, complex disease affecting nearly 42% of adults in the U.S., with real impacts on longevity, cardiometabolic health, and quality of life.

Events like this matter because they shift the conversation:
From blame → to biology
From stigma → to science
From weight → to health

Share this with someone who believes obesity care deserves better science, better access, and better conversations.

Today is World Obesity Day 🌍 — and this year’s theme says it all: 8 Billion Reasons to Act on Obesity.
At the Florida Obesity Society, we know that obesity is not a choice — it’s a complex, chronic disease shaped by biology, genetics, environment, healthcare access, food systems, and deep-rooted inequality.
📊 The numbers speak for themselves:
• 800 million people worldwide are currently living with obesity
• 4 billion people will be affected by overweight or obesity by 2035
• Medical costs will exceed $1 trillion by 2025
Weight stigma doesn’t help — it harms. Blaming individuals ignores the true drivers. Real change requires real action: in policy, in healthcare, and in how we treat one another.
Together, we can change the story. 💙 .jeremy
