We are proud to celebrate Juan M. Gonzalez, Ph.D., D.N.P., APRN, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, associate dean for undergraduate nursing programs and professor of clinical at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies, on being named a 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award honoree by Barry University.

The award recognizes Barry alumni whose professional accomplishments, leadership, and service exemplify the university’s values and make a meaningful impact in their professions and communities.

A nationally recognized advanced practice nurse, educator, clinician, and mentor, Dr. Gonzalez has dedicated his career to advancing nursing education, acute and emergency care, professional leadership, and service.

🩺🏆 A proud moment for the University of Miami School of Nursing & Health Studies!
We are proud to celebrate Dean Hudson Santos on receiving the 2026 Florida Nurses Association Barbara Lumpkin Icon Award, an honor recognizing his leadership and contributions to the nursing profession.
The evening was made even more meaningful as Dean Santos celebrated alongside members of the University of Miami and UHealth nursing community, including DNP student Anthony J. Silva, recipient of the Special Recognition Icon Award, and UHealth Chief Nursing Officer Elizabeth Laura Vieito-Smith, recipient of the Nursing Administration Icon Award.
Together, these honors highlight the strength, leadership, and impact of the University of Miami’s nursing community across education, healthcare, advocacy, and professional leadership.

On August 28, University of Miami School of Nursing & Health Studies students celebrated an important milestone at the Fall 2026 White Coat Ceremony—marking their transition from the classroom and simulation lab into the clinical setting.
Welcomed by Dean Hudson Santos and surrounded by faculty, family, and friends, our students received their white coats and recited the Ibis Nursing Pledge, affirming their commitment to compassion, dignity, ethical practice, lifelong learning, health equity, and service.
As Dean Santos reminded them, the true meaning of the white coat isn’t found in the fabric—it is defined by the kindness they show, the dignity they extend, the courage they demonstrate, and their commitment to improving the lives of others.
