I know the idea of abstaining from food feels foreign to most people. Many live under the illusion that if they miss a meal, they will somehow become sick, weak, or collapse.

I fast at least forty eight hours each week. Because of timing, it often stretches closer to sixty hours. Earlier today I began a thirty six hour fast, which means that when it completes I will have fasted seventy two hours this week.

I have to be honest. I like the way I feel when I fast, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I feel better and more in tune.

My body seems to offer its own quiet thank yous for giving it a break. If you do not fast regularly, and I do not mean intermittent fasting, which is not fasting, then understand that you have never truly given your body a rest. Imagine driving a car every single day versus driving it only three days a week. The car that is given a break will last far longer than the one used constantly. And if we never changed the oil, the car would likely fail around fifty thousand miles.

Fasting offers me the opportunity to rest my system and completely empty my bowels during the fast. That matters. In my opinion, a digestive system that is always full will eventually leak, contribute to autoimmune disease, become stagnant, poison the tissues, and lead to all kinds of bowel disorders.

I did not mean to preach. I am simply passionate about what I do. Take what tastes good and spit out the rest.

Loneliness is not defined by being alone or by the absence of others. Loneliness is an emotion that arises when one sits with oneself and finds no pleasure in that company.

If you feel lonely, do not run toward a crowd. Sit quietly with yourself, notice what arises, and ask why.

I’ll consume the entire pound in a week, and I don’t gain weight. I’m far from fat. I’m old, but I’m strong—and I look younger than my years. I live on beef, eggs, butter, and goat milk.
