Convenient? Yes.

Ideal? Not always.

Heat and humidity can affect medications even before their expiration date, which is why bathrooms are often a poor storage choice. A cool, dry location is generally better unless the label says otherwise.

One small habit can make a difference:

Read the storage instructions before choosing where to keep your medication.

Your medicine cabinet may be better suited to toothpaste than prescriptions.

Not sure how to store a prescription or compounded medication? Call West Knox Pharmacy before guessing.

Many people assume every medication should be taken with food. That's one of the most common misconceptions we hear.

The truth? It depends.

Some medications are absorbed better on an empty stomach. Others should always be taken with food to improve absorption or reduce stomach irritation. In some cases, the wrong meal, or even the timing of a meal, can affect how well your medication works.

That's why those little yellow instruction labels matter. They're there to help your medication work the way it's intended.

If you're ever unsure whether to take a medication with food or on an empty stomach, don't guess. Ask your pharmacist, we're here to help.

Questions about your prescription? Stop by West Knox Pharmacy or give us a call. We'll help you take your medications safely and confidently.

Here is a detail most patients never hear.

In a real-world psoriasis study, creams and gels were associated with better adherence than ointments when treating larger body areas. For smaller areas, that pattern reversed.

There is no universally “best” topical base.

Where it goes, how much area it covers, and how it feels all matter.

The vehicle is part of the treatment experience.

If a topical prescription is difficult to use consistently, talk with your provider and West Knox Pharmacy about whether a different compounded base may be appropriate.

That is not just a parent observation.

A 2026 review on pediatric medication adherence found that formulation and delivery systems play a central role in whether children can take treatment successfully. Taste, swallowability, age, dose flexibility, and acceptability all matter.

The right medication in the wrong format can still become a daily struggle.

Sometimes the solution is not changing the medicine. It is changing how the child receives it.

If medication time is difficult, ask your child’s provider whether a compounded dosage form may be appropriate, then contact West Knox Pharmacy.

That is a bigger deal than it sounds.

A recent community pharmacy study found that 63.9% of patients said medication size influenced their preferences, with nearly 60% preferring smaller formulations. Dosage form, dosing frequency, cost, and pill burden were also linked to stopping treatment.

Sometimes adherence is not about motivation. Sometimes the medication is simply harder to use than expected.

That is why dosage form matters.

If swallowing, size, or dosage form is making a prescription harder to use, talk with your provider and ask West Knox Pharmacy whether a customized option may be appropriate.

Shingles is more common than many realize, with about one third of people experiencing it in their lifetime. Knowing the facts can help you take steps to protect your health and stay informed about prevention.

You've probably heard someone say, "This medication worked great for me."

But the truth is, your body isn't their body.

The way you absorb, metabolize, and respond to medication can be influenced by genetics, age, other medications, allergies, hormone levels, and even the dosage form itself.

When a commercially available medication isn't the right fit, it doesn't always mean treatment has failed. Sometimes it simply means the approach needs to be personalized.

That's where compounding can make a meaningful difference.

Have questions about compounded medications? Talk with your healthcare provider or give our pharmacy a call, we're always happy to help explore the options.

This is one of those pharmacy processes most people never see.

When we receive a prescription for compounded capsules, we’re not simply counting premade pills.

We calculate the dose, measure the active and inactive ingredients, blend them until uniform, and use the capsule machine pictured here to prepare the prescription.

The finished product may look like a simple capsule, but a lot happens before it gets there.
