Can You Get a Sleep Apnea Oral Appliance If You Have an Underbite?
Having an underbite means your lower jaw or teeth sit farther forward than your upper jaw or teeth. But even with your lower jaw already positioned forward, you can still have a narrow airway that affects your breathing while you sleep.
In this video, Dr. Suzanne Thai explains how a custom sleep apnea oral appliance works by gently moving the lower jaw forward to help open the airway. She also discusses why people with an underbite may still be candidates for oral appliance therapy if their jaw can comfortably move farther forward.
