💩🚽 Did You Know? Constipation Can Contribute to Bladder Symptoms

Many people don't realize that the bladder and bowels are closely connected. When constipation is present, it can place additional pressure on the bladder and pelvic floor, which may contribute to symptoms you wouldn't normally associate with bowel health.

You may notice:
✨ Increased urinary urgency
✨ More frequent trips to the bathroom
✨ Difficulty fully emptying your bladder
✨ Urinary leakage
✨ Pelvic pressure or discomfort

When stool builds up in the re**um, it can reduce the space available for the bladder and affect how the pelvic floor muscles function. Chronic straining and constipation can also increase tension and pressure throughout the pelvic floor.

The good news? Addressing bowel habits and improving pelvic floor function can often help improve bladder symptoms, too.

Some ways to support healthy bowel and bladder function include:
💧 Staying hydrated
🥦 Eating adequate fiber
🚶 Moving your body regularly
🚽 Responding to the urge to have a bowel movement
🫁 Learning healthy breathing and pelvic floor coordination

💜 At Restore Pelvic Health & Wellness, we take a whole-body approach because pelvic health isn't just about one symptom or one body part—it's about how all the systems work together.

If you're struggling with constipation, bladder urgency, leaking, or pelvic discomfort, know that you're not alone, and there may be more to the story than you realize.

🚗🤢 Motion Sickness and Your Pelvic Floor: Is There a Connection?

Most people think of motion sickness as an issue with the inner ear or balance system, but it can affect much more than just your stomach.

When you experience motion sickness, your body often responds with increased stress, muscle tension, altered breathing patterns, and nervous system activation. These changes can sometimes contribute to symptoms throughout the body—including the pelvic floor.

You may notice:
✨ Increased urinary urgency during travel
✨ Pelvic tension or discomfort
✨ More frequent bathroom stops
✨ Abdominal tightness
✨ Constipation while traveling
✨ Feeling "on edge" or unable to relax

When your nervous system perceives a stressful situation—whether it's turbulence on a plane, winding roads, or being a passenger in a car—your body may shift into a heightened state of alertness. This can lead to shallow breathing, muscle guarding, and difficulty fully relaxing the pelvic floor muscles.

The pelvic floor works closely with your diaphragm, core muscles, and nervous system. When one part of the system is affected, the others often respond as well.

🌿 Some simple strategies that may help while traveling:
💜 Practice slow, deep breathing
💜 Stay hydrated
💜 Take movement breaks when possible
💜 Avoid holding tension in your abdomen
💜 Change positions frequently during long trips

At Restore Pelvic Health & Wellness, we look at the whole body—not just the pelvic floor. Understanding how your nervous system, breathing, posture, and movement patterns interact can help uncover factors contributing to bladder, bowel, and pelvic health symptoms.

Because sometimes the symptoms you're experiencing aren't just about the destination—they're about how your body responds to the journey.

Many women are told that painful periods are simply "part of being a woman" or that they just need to learn to live with them. While mild discomfort can be common, severe or debilitating period pain is not something you should have to suffer through every month.

Symptoms such as:
✨ Severe cramping
✨ Pelvic pain
✨ Low back pain
✨ Pain with bowel movements
✨ Pain with in*******se
✨ Pain that interferes with school, work, or daily activities

may be signs that something else is contributing to your symptoms, such as pelvic floor dysfunction, endometriosis, adenomyosis, or other pelvic health conditions.

The pelvic floor muscles can become tight, tender, and overactive in response to chronic pain, which may further contribute to symptoms and impact quality of life.

💜 Pelvic floor physical therapy cannot treat the underlying cause of conditions like endometriosis, but it can help address the muscle tension, pain, movement restrictions, and pelvic floor dysfunction that often accompany these conditions.

You deserve to be heard, and you deserve answers. Painful periods should never be ignored or dismissed.

At Restore Pelvic Health & Wellness, we take a whole-body, compassionate approach to helping women better understand their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

✨ If your period pain is affecting how you live, work, exercise, or enjoy your life, know that support is available. Give us a call to get on the schedule 234-806-3248 or check out our online booking option to schedule yourself for an Evaluation.

🌙😴 Do you wake up feeling tense, sore, or stiff? It might not just be your mattress.

Many people are aware that they clench their jaw while they sleep—but did you know you can also carry tension in your pelvic floor?

Stress, anxiety, and even certain breathing patterns can cause your body to stay in a guarded, "always on" state. While you sleep, this may contribute to increased muscle tension throughout the body, including your jaw, neck, shoulders, abdomen, and pelvic floor.

Over time, this tension may be associated with symptoms such as:
✨ Pelvic pain or pressure
✨ Pain with in*******se
✨ Urinary urgency or frequency
✨ Difficulty emptying your bladder or bowels
✨ Tailbone, hip, or low back pain
✨ A feeling of tightness that just won't go away

Your pelvic floor is designed to contract and relax. If those muscles stay tense for long periods, they may not function as efficiently, which can contribute to discomfort and changes in bladder or bowel function.

The good news? You don't have to figure it out on your own.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help identify areas of muscle tension, improve coordination, teach relaxation and breathing techniques, and help your body move out of that constant state of guarding.

💜 At Restore Pelvic Health & Wellness, we look beyond the symptoms to understand how your whole body—including your nervous system, breathing, and movement patterns—may be contributing to how you feel.

Have you ever woken up with a sore jaw, tight hips, or unexplained pelvic tension? You're not alone, and it may all be connected.

Have you noticed your pelvic floor symptoms seem worse during stressful seasons of life? You're not imagining it.

Stress doesn't just affect your mind—it affects your entire body, including your pelvic floor.

Whether you're navigating a new baby, caring for a loved one, grieving a loss, changing careers, moving, or simply juggling the demands of everyday life, your body can respond by holding onto tension. That tension can show up in ways you may not expect.

You may notice:
✨ Increased urinary urgency or frequency
✨ Pelvic pain or pressure
✨ Pain with intimacy
✨ Low back, hip, or tailbone pain
✨ Constipation or changes in bowel habits
✨ Difficulty relaxing your pelvic floor muscles

When we're under stress, our breathing often becomes shallow, our muscles tighten, and our nervous system shifts into "survival mode." Over time, these changes can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction or make existing symptoms feel more intense.

The good news? Your body has the ability to heal.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help you reconnect with your body by improving muscle coordination, reducing tension, restoring healthy movement patterns, and teaching strategies to calm the nervous system.

💜 At Restore Pelvic Health & Wellness, we understand that healing isn't just physical—it's emotional, too. We take a compassionate, whole-body approach to help you feel stronger, more comfortable, and more like yourself again.

Remember, experiencing pelvic floor symptoms after a stressful life event doesn't mean you have to "just live with it." Support is available, and you don't have to navigate it alone.

Call to schedule an Evaluation 234-806-3248 or to get back into Pelvic Floor Therapy.
You can also Book Online with something that works for you!

Your hips and pelvic floor are more connected than you might think!

If you've been dealing with hip pain, low back pain, pelvic pain, or a feeling of tightness that just won't go away, your hip mobility could be playing a role.

The muscles around your hips and pelvis work together every time you walk, squat, lift, climb stairs, or even take a deep breath. When your hips are stiff or not moving well, your pelvic floor may have to compensate, which can contribute to discomfort or changes in muscle coordination.

That's why pelvic floor physical therapy looks beyond the pelvis. A comprehensive evaluation includes how your hips, core, posture, breathing, and movement patterns work together to support your body as a whole.

Whether your goal is to get back to running, lifting weights, playing with your kids, or simply moving through your day with less pain, improving hip mobility may be an important part of the process.

💜 At Restore Pelvic Health & Wellness, we take a whole-body approach because lasting results often come from treating the body as a connected system—not just focusing on where the pain is.

Have you ever noticed your hips feel especially tight after sitting all day or after a workout? If so, we would love to hear from you and get you scheduled for an evaluation today!
