Bodhi Mama Birth & Botanicals Birth and Postpartum Doula, Clinical Herbalist, LMT #28233

While doulas can seem expensive and require a financial investment, when we market ourselves as a luxury, we overlook our immense benefit. Sure, it sounds luxurious to have extra support. However, given how important birth is and the climate of modern maternity care, doulas are invaluable.

As doulas, we provide invaluable:

Emotional support
Physical Support
Education
Support in informed decision making.
Evidence-based support
Prenatal and postpartum support
Practical support
And more! Research shows that continuous labor support, like that of a professional doula, reduces the risk of c-section and other interventions. Continuous labor support increases the likelihood of a positive birth experience as well.

We cannot promise specific birth scenarios and outcomes. However, we can promise continuous, empowering support to help clients feel cared for regardless of how birth unfolds.

One of the phrases I hear most from mothers is, "I'm fine."

Sometimes they say it with tears in their eyes. Sometimes while apologizing for not keeping up with the house. Sometimes while surviving on broken sleep, carrying the weight of everyone else's needs, and quietly wondering why this feels so much harder than they expected.

The truth is, I don't need you to be "fine."

In fact, the mothers who allow themselves to say, "I'm struggling," "I'm exhausted," or "I don't know what I need, but I know I can't keep doing this alone," are the ones I can support most deeply.

Asking for help isn't failing. It's an act of courage.

So many women invite me into their postpartum journey, but still hesitate to truly lean on the support they've invested in. They apologize for asking me to hold the baby so they can shower. They insist on entertaining me instead of resting. They tell me not to worry about the dishes, the laundry, or the tears.

Mama... this is exactly why I'm here.

You don't have to earn your rest. You don't have to prove you're capable. You don't have to convince me you're okay.

Whether your baby is 12 weeks old, 12 months old, or even years beyond birth, if you're carrying more than you were meant to carry alone, you deserve support.

You don't have to be "fine" with me.

You just have to be honest.

When I first began studying herbalism, one of the most valuable lessons my teachers shared wasn't about memorizing hundreds of herbs.

It was about choosing one herb and learning 10 different ways to work with it.

That approach completely changed the way I practice.

Instead of chasing the next "miracle herb," I learned to build a relationship with a plant—understanding its energetics, how it behaves in different preparations, and how it can support the body in surprisingly diverse ways.

Calendula is the perfect herb to begin this series.

Often called the "skin herb," calendula is so much more than a salve ingredient. It supports tissue repair, soothes inflammation, encourages lymphatic movement, comforts the digestive tract, and offers incredible support during postpartum healing. The same plant can become a nourishing tea, an infused oil, a sitz bath, a compress, a bath soak, a healing spray, a poultice, and so much more.

This is one of the beautiful things about herbalism:
🌼 We don't always need more herbs.
🌼 We often need a deeper relationship with the ones we already have.

So welcome to "1 Herb, 10 Ways" - a series where we'll slow down, get curious, and explore one plant at a time.

We're starting with one of my forever favorites: Calendula.

Preconception health matters more than most people realize 🤍

Fertility is about so much more than just getting a positive test. The health of the thyroid, nutrient levels, inflammation, hormones, and even environmental exposures can all play a role in conception, pregnancy, and early baby development.

I love seeing providers take a more comprehensive look at the body before pregnancy rather than waiting until problems arise.

Whether you're actively trying to conceive, preparing for pregnancy in the future, or simply wanting to better understand your body - supporting foundational health matters 🌿

This is educational information only and not medical advice. Always discuss labs and treatment options with your healthcare provider.
