When you support student fellowships at our Institute, your impact reaches far beyond our campus walls.

We are proud to spotlight two of our 2026-2027 Student Research Fellowship awardees, Sima Ziyaee and Daniel Simchuk. Using flexible travel funds awarded by the Institute, both students recently traveled to the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS)'s annual conference. Mass spectrometry is an advanced laboratory technology critical to our ongoing nutrition and metabolic research.

Stepping onto a national stage to present data, receive peer feedback, and network with leading global experts is an important experience for early-career scientists. Sima reached out to share how much the experience energized her work, noting that face-to-face discussions with pioneers in her field have already brought fresh perspectives to her dissertation research back home.

Opportunities like these are made possible through competitive, donor-supported institutional funds. Please join us in celebrating Sima and Daniel's hard work and dedication!

We’re pleased to share the latest research from the Dr. Fred Stevens lab!

Their Phase 2 clinical trial found that xanthohumol, a natural compound from hops, moved patients with active Crohn's disease into remission within 4 weeks, with no adverse effects.

🔎 Check it out in the latest Molecular Nutrition & Food Research: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/mnfr.70501

Shout out to College of Health - Oregon State University and LPI alum Paige Jamieson for her work on this exciting research!

To learn more about the research–and the possibilities it may hold for millions of people managing inflammatory bowel disease–check out our Research Insider newsletter hub: https://lpi.oregonstate.edu/research-insider/xanthohumol-crohns-disease-clinical-trial

An LPI-led Phase 2 trial shows xanthohumol, a natural compound from hops, reduced Crohn's disease activity to remission levels with no adverse effects.

It's Dam Proud Day! Double your impact today and support student researchers like Tatum Joyner.🔬

Thanks to a Dr. Mary McCarthy Summer Student Research Fund scholarship, Tatum spent last summer investigating the cellular pathways of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s with Institute researcher Dr. Maria Purice.

Today's Challenge: Help us reach 100 donations for our scholarships, research, and outreach, and we'll be able to unlock $104,050 in challenge gifts. Plus, Joe and Tanya Beckman will double all gifts received today until we raise $50,000!
👉 lpi.pub/DamProud

For students like Tatum, your gift can be life changing. “Student scholarships are about so much more than paying tuition. It’s also about helping a student grow their sense of purpose and identity,” she says.

A BioHealth Sciences junior, Tatum continues her research in the Purice Lab, helping us understand—and hopefully one day treat—these devastating diseases. What’s next? After graduation, she’s headed into nursing so that she can combine her scientific knowledge with her passion for caring for others.

We love this new article in The Corvallis Inquirer about a little bit of drama between Linus Pauling and J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist behind the Manhattan Project.

Read on for the spilled tea, as well as other more substantial highlights from Dr. Pauling’s rise to prominence as a chemist – and his work promoting nuclear disarmament.

🔎 To dig even further into the fascinating history of the Institute’s co-founder, check out OSU archivist Chris Petersen’s new book, The Many Worlds of Linus Pauling. The Pauling25 discount code is still active for 25 percent off!

Oppenheimer would go on to lead the development of the atomic bomb, while Pauling would take a very different path.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday April 29th and join us in advancing science that helps people live longer, healthier lives!

April 29th is Dam Proud Day, our annual day for online giving. It’s a fun name for this Oregon State “Beaver Nation” effort, and we are indeed proud to be part of that!

🔬At its core, Dam Proud Day is critical for funding research the Linus Pauling Institute is poised to advance — research that investigates the biological mechanisms of aging and metabolic and degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s.

💪Research that leads to better strategies and treatments that help people take charge of their health.

👩‍🎓We’re also highlighting the Institute’s extraordinary environment for teaching tomorrow’s science leaders. On Dam Proud Day, your support can help passionate, talented students who seek to train with us and work on the greatest health challenges of our time.

Stay tuned! lpi.pub/DamProud
