At Tonic & Phasic, hormonal health is a key part of our work as holistic pelvic floor therapists. When we get a clear picture of hormone levels, patients can see:

a) their hormone baseline,
b) what may be imbalanced, and
c) what we can do together to support hormonal balance and overall health.

(Bonus: Patients can also track how different treatment approaches may influence their hormone health over time.)

Hormone tracking isn’t just for fertility support. Although we often use Inito to support fertility outcomes, we also incorporate hormone tracking into treatment plans for pelvic pain, endometriosis, dyspareunia, vaginismus or vulvodynia, and even bladder and bowel conditions.

So we tried out their new device for you.

Inito’s Insight Wireless Reader is a great way to get precise data on your hormonal health, and it can provide important data for your pelvic pain treatment as you work alongside a holistic provider.

Male s*xual dysfunction is more common than many people realize. But it’s not controlled by just one body part or system. The brain, hormones, nervous system, pelvic floor muscles, hips, spine, and core — along with blood flow — all impact male s*xual health. When one piece of the puzzle is off, usually, something else is too.

Let’s debunk some myths relating to male pelvic health.

Yes, men have a pelvic floor!

We treat a range of pelvic floor dysfunctions. Oftentimes, these are symptoms and conditions that many patients didn’t know pelvic floor therapy could help.

Often, pelvic dysfunction can arise even with no clear pathology; so our work is to consider every possible contributing factor to bring you relief. In pelvic floor therapy, you’ll consider:
nervous system contributions
muscular factors
structural factors like your spine, hips, abdomen, gut health, etc.
hormonal and nutritional factors
All of these contribute to your pelvic floor function, so it’s essential to establish a comprehensive care plan that can actually bring manageable relief for the long-term.

We’re here for you. If you find yourself in a symptomatic state for longer than 3 months, reach out.

Part Two: Pessaries!

One of our most-used tools for supporting the pelvic organs in prolapse. Pessaries come in different shapes and sizes, depending on what your body needs — and when we use them, we can conservatively treat the surrounding tissues for better muscle coordination, strength training, and pressure mechanics.

Dr. Allea Francis, PT, DPT, is certified in pessary fittings. To learn more, call us at (949) 612-7695 or visit our website, tonicandphasic.com.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The Basics with Dr. Allea Francis, PT, DPT.

As Pelvic Floor Therapists, our job is to assess the stage and the structures affected by prolapse, creating a plan to resolve symptoms with better muscle coordination, load redistribution, and pressure management strategies. Tonic & Phasic often uses pessaries — a tool that supports the organs while we work on muscle coordination and strength.

When you think prolapse, you may think ‘weakness:’ maybe pelvic floor muscle strengthening is required to solve the issue. But usually, the system is not weak; it’s toned and tense in all the wrong areas as the pelvis tries to stabilize itself.

Pelvic Floor Therapy comes into play as you learn to properly manage pressure and load, utilizing techniques for better muscle coordination.

Because of its similarities to many other conditions, Painful Bladder Syndrome (Interstitial Cystitis) is often misdiagnosed, dismissed, and overlooked, even with its significant impacts on daily life. But hear us when we say this: it is treatable.

Once diagnosed, sometimes IC is treated only as a bladder issue. But many biomechanical factors are at play with IC — not just the bladder!

The pelvic floor muscles, the nervous system, hormonal influences, stress — even dietary factors can trigger IC flares.

Since it’s such a multi-system issue, care for IC shouldn’t just mask symptoms or offer isolated interventions. True remission can only happen when all underlying contributors are addressed.

Root-cause care is what we do — and it should be central to the care you receive anywhere for IC.

Wondering if you should seek further care for these symptoms? We’re here for you. Feel free to DM us to set up a free consultation with our care coordinator, or call (949) 612-7695 for a consultation!

Next time you’re prescribed antibiotics without having a urine culture first — think twice!

It could actually be muscular restriction, hormonal imbalance, nervous system dysregulation—all of which Pelvic Floor Therapy can treat.

If the test comes back positive, it is essential to take the antibiotics to prevent a worsening infection.

But if the culture is negative, it’s time to look at your overall bladder function with a pelvic floor therapist. Because yes, these symptoms can feel exactly like a UTI and can be triggered by the same things.

Recurring UTI symptoms without a UTI detected can be very confusing, frustrating, and painful. You are not alone. If you’ve been told “Everything looks normal” with recurring symptoms, try pelvic floor therapy! Visit tonicandphasic.com/blog to learn more.

(Yes, I am gesturing with Palo Santo)

There are two types of dyspareunia (pain with s*x): superficial pain, meaning close to the skin, and deep pain.

You can have one or both; both need different approaches as different muscles, nerves, and hormonal or systemic factors can be involved. No one’s experience with dyspareunia is the same as someone else’s, which is why Pelvic Floor PT is one of the first things we’d recommend if you experience unwanted painful in*******se

Pain with s*x is a common experience, and one reason is Vaginismus: an inability to put anything into the vaginal canal.

If this is you, you’re not alone, and you’re not crazy! Vaginismus is a mind-body condition that truly illustrates the connection our mind has to our body, nervous system, and muscles. When the nervous system anticipates pain, the muscles respond quickly to guard the vaginal canal.

This mind-body communication can be retrained to help your body relearn safety, relaxation, and pleasure; and, if you desire, to help you use a tampon or diva cup again. Vaginismus is treatable, and we’re here to help!
