He performs cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face. Specific cosmetic procedures performed include rhinoplasty (nose job), rhytidectomy (face lift), blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), midface lift, chemical peels, Botox and Dysport injections, fat injections, and injection of filler agents, such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse. Reconstruction of facial defects following skin cancer removal, nasal surgery to improve breathing, and repair of facial fractures are also performed. Dr. Ward has a special interest in treating patients who have facial paralysis, such as after Bell's palsy, trauma, removal of cancer, or due to congenital problems. His management of these patients is done with a multidisciplinary team.

I came across this picture today. It was taken exactly 14 years ago today at Donut Falls. I loved to take my kids hiking all the time. I love hiking and being in the mountains and I wanted my kids to love it too. So I took them with me! We hiked all over the place together. I have so many memories of being in the mountains with them. Those times are still some of my favorite memories with them.

Abby and Jake are in this picture and they have always been linked together.

The hard part about seeing this picture today is knowing what happened just four years later. These two were hiking together again when Abby fell about 70 feet. She was terribly injured and her life changed that day.

Jake was only 15 and he saved her life. I still don’t know how a 15-year-old handled what happened as well as he did. He stayed calm. He used what he had learned in Scouts. He used good judgment and common sense. He figured out what he needed to do to help his sister and he did it. He truly saved Abby’s life that day.

I think that’s part of why this picture means so much to me now. I spent years taking my kids into the mountains because it was something I loved and something we loved doing together. Then, four years after this picture, the mountains were where the worst accident our family had ever experienced happened.

And these two were there together. I look at little Jake in this picture and think about the fact that four years later, at only 15 years old, he would be the one Abby needed. I look at Abby and remember who she was before her accident and how dramatically her life was about to change.

But mostly, I just look at them and remember how much I love them. They were kids then and they will always be my kids.
And, no matter what, I will always love them.
