Movement is a privilege, not a chore. ✨

Ok, ok… sometimes exercise can feel like a chore! But when that happens, a simple shift in perspective can make a real difference.

Instead of just another item on your to-do list, what if your movement routine became an opportunity to meet yourself with grace and celebrate what your body can do today?

When “I have to work out” becomes “I get to move my body,” exercise feels less like a punishment. Gratitude replaces guilt. 🌿

Be kind to your body; let go of your “ideal workout” and welcome whatever level of activity makes sense for you today.

An estimated 32.8 percent of adults do not get the minimum daily recommended 7 hours of sleep.

Consistent, quality sleep may seem like a luxury, but it is essential for health. For those managing diabetes, getting less than the recommended 7-9 hours carries both immediate and long-term risks.

🛏️ Just one night of sleep deprivation can cause immediate, measurable insulin resistance and higher baseline glucose levels.

🥱 Inadequate sleep is a major stressor, leading the body to produce excess cortisol, which prevents insulin from doing its job.

🍕 A lack of rest alters appetite-regulating hormones, making it much harder to stay on track with nutrition goals.

🚨 The cognitive toll of sleep deprivation negatively impacts mood, motivation, impulse control, and overall executive functioning, which in turn can disrupt the self-care routines and essential behaviors required to manage diabetes effectively.

Chronic sleep debt can damage nearly every system in the body, leading to serious and even life-threatening complications. It also undermines the benefits of diet, exercise, and other health practices that are often prioritized over sleep itself.

If you are struggling with sleep issues, consult your healthcare provider about possible strategies or treatments to help improve your sleep and, ultimately, your diabetes management.

Managing diabetes in warmer weather requires extra care and planning. Here are 8 tips to help you stay safe and prepared as things start to heat up:

🏃‍♀️ Exercise early, late, or indoors. Midday heat can spike your blood sugar and put extra stress on your body. Schedule workouts for cooler parts of the day, or take it inside when temps are high.

💧 Stay hydrated. Dehydration can raise blood glucose levels, so keep your water bottle handy.

🩸 Monitor more often. Heat can affect how your body responds to insulin, so check your levels more frequently than usual during hot weather.

🔥 Check the heat index. Humidity matters, too! If the heat index is high, take extra precautions even if it doesn't feel that hot.

👕 Wear loose, light clothing. Breathable fabrics help your body regulate temperature and reduce the risk of overheating.

✅ Make a plan in case you lose power. Know where to store your insulin and supplies if your home loses AC. Have a backup plan ready before you need it.

🪄 Keep supplies and equipment out of the heat. Insulin, CGMs, and other devices can be damaged by high temperatures. Store them in a cool, shaded place.

👟 Avoid going barefoot. Hot pavement can cause burns fast, especially if you have reduced sensation in your feet. Always protect your feet outdoors.

Don't let the heat catch you off guard. A little preparation can go a long way!😎

Talking about your diabetes can feel vulnerable, especially if you fear judgment.

By being clear about your needs, setting boundaries, and sharing your experience, you can help others understand how to support you in a way that truly helps.

Talking to Loved Ones About Your Diabetes—Without Feeling Judged

Despite growing awareness of the importance of mental health and its impact on overall well-being, most people don’t think much about it on a daily basis, often waiting until symptoms become disruptive before seeking help.

This , we’re reminding our community that proactive mental health care is a crucial aspect of diabetes care, not a separate or lesser priority.

Recognizing the bidirectional relationship between physical and mental health is important. Not only can the daily stress and burden of self-management contribute to anxiety, diabetes distress and burnout, or depression, but if left unaddressed, emotional challenges can also hinder effective diabetes care and increase the risk of complications.

By asking for help and incorporating mental health practices into your daily routine, you can support more consistent self-management and better diabetes outcomes, while addressing emotional challenges before they become overwhelming.
