Meet Nila, a member of our Family Aftercare team who has worked in donation for over 20 years. When reflecting on her role at LOPA, she shared that the selflessness of our donors, the families she meets and the opportunity to honor their heroes are what make her work so meaningful.

As she said, “Grief is a journey and only you can go on it, but you don’t have to walk that alone.”

We're grateful to have Nila walk alongside our donor families as they navigate their grief.

As George's family shared: “For our family, his donation means so much more than a statistic or a record. It is a reflection of who Dobe was. He served his country. He served his community. He loved his family. And in the end, he continued to serve others by giving the gift of life.”

Thank you to George's family for allowing us to honor his remarkable life and legacy. Read his full story at: lopa.org/heroes/george-clement

As National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month comes to a close, donor hero Reece Borel’s story reminds us why conversations about donation matter. His mom, Penny, shares a message she hopes others will hear: “I don’t want people to learn about LOPA when they need it. I want people to know about LOPA before.”

Reece first learned about organ donation as a child after asking his mom about the heart on her license. Years later, when it was time to get his own, he made the decision to register as a donor too.

Watch as Reece’s mom, Penny, and twin sister, Hannah, share more about Reece’s giving spirit, the impact of his decision and how they continue to turn their pain into purpose by sharing his story.

We’re honored to share the story of donor hero Ms. Doris Broussard through the voices of her son, Otis, and daughter-in-law, Madonna during National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month.

At 91 years old, Ms. Doris was a resilient and hardworking woman who was adamant about her decision to be a donor. Today, her family reflects on honoring her decision, their experience with LOPA and the lasting impact her gift has had on their family and others.

As Madonna recalled, when their family gathered at the hospital to discuss donation, they knew, “She’s got to live through somebody else, and whoever is going to get this joyful spirit, they’re going to be okay.”
