✨ Where Are They Now? Alumni Spotlight ✨

We are excited to spotlight Brooke Kowalczyk, a 2022 graduate of the TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting program! 🦷

Brooke is a Registered Dental Assistant and is currently continuing her education full-time in Dental Hygiene school. Since graduating, she has gained experience in general dentistry while using skills such as taking X-rays, sterilization, room setup, assisting during procedures, impressions, clinical notes, and more.

Brooke shared that TCAT Northwest helped prepare her in so many ways, saying that the skills taught in the program are used every day in the dental field. Her proudest accomplishment since graduating is that dental assisting helped create her love for dentistry and inspired her to take the next step toward becoming a dental hygienist.

Her advice to current and future Dental Assisting students is:

“Advocate for yourself, always! Find an office that appreciates you and values your worth! Make sure to make time for yourself outside of work and try your best not to take work home with you!”

We are so proud of Brooke and excited to see all she accomplishes in this next chapter! 💙🦷✨

🦷 Where Are They Now? Alumni Spotlight 🦷

We are excited to spotlight Bailey Sanders, a 2020 graduate of the TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting program!

Bailey is currently an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) at Dr. Bob Dalsania Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Covington, TN, where she has been making an impact in the dental field for over five years.

In her role, Bailey assists with a wide variety of procedures, including placing composite restorations, digital scanning, 3D printing, fabricating temporaries, taking radiographs, infection control, and much more. She credits the program with providing the foundation and confidence needed to succeed in a dental career.

One of Bailey’s proudest accomplishments has been becoming an EFDA and continuing to expand her skills through advanced technology and patient care. Her advice to current students: “Don’t stress about being perfect right away. You learn by doing. Ask questions, stay open to learning, and give yourself grace while you figure it out.”

Bailey loves being part of every aspect of the dental office and helping patients feel confident about their smiles. We are proud of all she has accomplished and thankful she continues to represent TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting so well!

Today, the TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting class participated in the EV Event at the Ripley Campus! 🦷✨

Students provided helpful literature on proper brushing and flossing while also gaining hands-on experience with the intraoral camera. This allowed them to learn in real time as they observed different types of fillings, cracked teeth, broken teeth, and oral conditions such as mandibular tori.

We also held a Go Opalescence Whitening Tray giveaway. Congratulations to the winner, Paten Ervin! 🎉🦷

It was a great day of giving back to the community while continuing to grow and learn as future dental professionals! 💙🪥

Yesterday, our TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting students participated in a fun PPE Challenge! 🦷🧤

Students were divided into groups and went head-to-head to see who could put on their PPE the fastest while still following the correct order. This was a great way to reinforce the importance of proper PPE use while adding a little friendly competition!

Today, our Dental Assisting students had the honor of welcoming guest speaker Mr. Wally Gardner with Midsouth Dental Equipment.

During his presentation, Mr. Wally shared valuable information about the differences between manufacturers, distributors, and dental sales companies, as well as the professional relationships students may develop throughout their careers.

He also discussed the important role dental assistants play in helping a dental office run efficiently and grow successfully.

We truly appreciate Mr. Wally taking the time to invest in our students and share his knowledge with the future of dental assisting! 🦷👏

🦷✨ The TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting students have been working hard learning about head and neck anatomy!

Understanding the landmarks of the oral cavity and surrounding structures is an important part of becoming a skilled dental assistant. We are proud of their dedication as they continue building a strong foundation for their future careers! 👏📚🪥

Please note: There was no cross-contamination during this activity. Students wearing gloves while using their books were not assessing the patient.

The TCAT Northwest Dental Assisting students have been learning how to properly put on and take off PPE, as well as the importance of wearing PPE to protect themselves, their patients, and their team. 🦷🧤😷

Proper PPE use is a vital part of infection control in the dental setting, and these students are building strong habits that will help prepare them for clinical practice. We are proud of their hard work and dedication to learning the skills needed to keep everyone safe! 👏✨
