This page is your go-to resource for deepening your understanding of mental health and discovering ways to enhance your well-being. My name is Ann-Marie Lamin-Anthony, and I'm excited to be on Facebook as Nurse-Annish. I'm a registered nurse specializing in mental health. As a mental health nurse, my goal is to help people who struggle with mental illness, trauma, addiction, and other challenges.

I see first-hand how common these issues are and how much stigma surrounds them. I want to use social media to help break down those stigmas and start meaningful conversations. On my page, I will share information about different mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and resources for support. I'll also share stories from my experiences as a nurse to give insights into recovery. My hope is that by helping to educate others, we can create more empathy and understanding. I enjoy cooking, shopping, and spending time with family when I'm not at the hospital. I'm looking forward to connecting with others as passionate as I am about mental health advocacy and community. Please message me if you have any questions or want to discuss specific topics. I'm here to help however I can. Follow Nurse Annish to stay informed and supported as you pursue better mental health. Let’s break the stigma and promote mental wellness together. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to getting to know you all better!

💙 June is Men’s Health Month 💙
Strength isn't about carrying every burden alone. Real strength is recognizing when you need support and taking steps to care for your mental well-being.
Men face unique challenges—from work and financial pressures to relationships, stress, anxiety, and depression. It's okay to talk about it, ask for help, and prioritize your mental health.
✨ Your mental health is as important as your physical health. Don't take it lightly.
This month, let's encourage the men in our lives to check in, speak up, and seek support when needed. Healing is a sign of strength.

Chest Pain & Depression: A Real, Lesser-Known Link.

When you think of depression, do you picture only mood? Depression is complex, and physical symptoms like chest pain are common and often overlooked.

While you must always rule out heart, lung, or stomach problems with a doctor, this infographic from Gallant Minds Psychiatry highlights the crucial link. The physical pain is valid and can be a direct symptom of depression.

Understanding the linked risks is vital: depression boosts heart disease risk, and heart attack survivors face a higher risk of depression. Don’t ignore either your physical or your mental well-being. They are both parts of the same whole.

Identify your symptoms. Prioritize your well-being. Take the first step at gallantmindspsychiatry.com.

Headaches and mental health are closely linked. If you live with major depression, you are 3 times more likely to experience migraines.

Conversely, people who suffer from migraines are 5 times more likely to get depressed.

It is time to visualize this mutual risk. 'your mental health is as important as your physical health don't take it lightly'.

Depression isn't just in your head; it often manifests as physical symptoms involving changes in appetite and weight. You may experience feeling less hungry, resulting in weight loss, or conversely, find you cannot stop eating, which results in weight gain. Both of these changes can lead to a pervasive lack of energy. Additionally, these symptoms are linked to serious eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating.

Remember, your mental health is as important as your physical health; do not take it lightly.

Take control of your well-being today. Schedule an appointment with Gallant Minds Psychiatry to receive compassionate, expert care.

Stop thinking it's "just aging." 🕰️

For older adults, depression can be a subtle—or even the only—symptom of an underactive (Hypo) or overactive (Hyper) thyroid condition. Often, these treatable problems are mistaken for bowel or heart issues.

Check the infographic for the key symptoms. The solution? See your doctor and get tested, especially if you have a family history.
This is a very treatable problem. Seek professional care.

AFRICAN MISCONCEPTIONS OF MENTAL HEALTH 🧠🌍
“Just pray about it.”
“It’s a spiritual attack.”
“They are just seeking attention.”
“Strong people don’t get depressed.”
“Mental illness means you are crazy.”
These are some of the harmful misconceptions many Africans still face when struggling with mental health challenges.
Mental illness is real. Anxiety is real. Depression is real. Trauma is real. And seeking help is not weakness — it is courage.
At the African Mental Health Awareness Initiative, we are committed to breaking stigma, restoring hope, and creating safe conversations within African communities at home and in the diaspora.
Let’s talk openly.
Let’s educate compassionately.
Let’s heal together. 💚
