You may have heard about the viral “Cat in the Hat” threat making the rounds on social media.

Most of these frightening posts and videos appear to be hoaxes or AI-generated content — but if a post names a specific child, school, or location, it should still be taken seriously and reported.

Please remind your kids:
📱 Screenshot it.
🚫 Don’t share it.
🗣️ Tell an adult.
⚠️ Report specific threats.
😬 And don’t make one yourself “as a joke.”

One more important point: if your younger child hasn’t seen the scary videos, there is no reason to show them. We don’t need to frighten children in order to teach them what to do.

A good rule for kids online: Tell an adult you trust. Don’t search, share or try to solve it.

THE CAT IN THE HAT TREND
More Than 10 Juveniles Arrested—and Counting

What is it?

People are posting creepy TikTok videos showing someone dressed as the Cat in the Hat walking through neighborhoods and claiming, “I’m coming for you next.”

Now kids are copying, editing, and reposting these videos to make it appear that the character was seen near their own schools or neighborhoods. Some posts name specific schools, students, or communities and include threatening messages.

More than 10 juveniles have reportedly been arrested nationwide in connection with these posts—and that number continues to grow.

Some kids believe they are protected because they didn’t create the original video. They simply reposted it or added their school’s initials. But sharing content that threatens people or causes panic can still lead to serious consequences, including school discipline, suspension, expulsion, a police investigation, or criminal charges.

Initials can also create confusion. A post threatening “MHS” could refer to hundreds of middle schools and high schools across the country. Kids may knowingly share a video intended for another school while causing fear at their own.

Please talk to your kids:

Do not create these videos.
Do not edit them.
Do not repost them.
Do not add school names, initials, or student names.
Report threatening content to an adult, the school, or law enforcement.

This reminds me of the creepy clown trend from years ago. It spread fear across the country, but most of the “clowns” were never found anywhere except behind a keyboard.

A prank stops being funny when schools are disrupted, families are frightened, and police resources are pulled away from real emergencies.

Respiratory infection prevention recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics and other academic institutions.

This week the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America jointly released their respiratory vaccine recommendations for the fall. That guidance normally comes from CDC's vaccine advisory committee, which has been in legal limbo since a federal judge ruled in March that the health secretary likely acted unlawfully in altering vaccine policy, so the societies stepped in.

Behind it is an independent evidence review from the Vaccine Integrity Project, conducted with the American Medical Association. Reviewers screened more than 5,800 studies and identified 69 published between August 2025 and June 2026. They found no new safety concerns.

For flu, everyone 6 months and older should be vaccinated. October is a good target for most people, and later is much better than skipping it. Adults 65 and older should preferentially receive an enhanced vaccine (high dose, adjuvanted, recombinant or mRNA) when one is available, but should not delay vaccination to get one.

For COVID, AAFP recommends an updated 2026-2027 vaccine for all adults 19 and older, with adults 65 and older getting a second dose six months after the first. AAP recommends it for all children 6 through 23 months, and for older children based on risk or parental preference. ACOG recommends it during pregnancy and lactation, in any trimester.

For RSV, adults 75 and older, and adults 50 through 74 at increased risk, should get a single dose, and for most adults it isn't an annual vaccine. Infants are protected a different way, through maternal vaccination at 32-36 weeks or an antibody immunization after birth. AAP recommends the antibody for babies under 8 months entering their first RSV season if the mother wasn't vaccinated, and for certain high-risk children 8 through 19 months entering their second season.

All three vaccines can safely be given at the same visit, including during pregnancy, without reducing how well they work. Talk with your clinician or pharmacist about which of these apply to you.
