Here's an experiment.
Think about the amount of cereal you pour into a bowl.
The amount of dressing you put on a salad.
The amount of rice you put beside dinner.
The amount of peanut butter that goes on something.
Why that amount?
For most of us, the answer is:
That's just how much I use.
Which is interesting.
Because somewhere along the way an arbitrary quantity became the normal amount.
And once something becomes normal, we stop making a decision about it.
You don't need to measure everything you eat for the rest of your life.
But occasionally measuring something you haven't measured in years can be remarkably educational.
Not because the label tells you what you're “allowed” to eat.
Because you finally discover what you've actually been eating.
