Yesterday, I had the honor and privilege to visit Healing Hearts Rescue and Rehab and meet "Lisa", a young Paso Fino recently rescued from the Kill Pen. Yes, I said KILL PEN! These things DO exist and it's disgusting! Sorry.....rant over.
Little is known of "Lisa's" history but trauma and neglect is evident and to say she was petrified, is putting it mildly. She was very hesitant to enter the stable area, even for food and would not let Belesa Thompson touch her. From the moment I stepped into the pen, I could feel an overwhelming sense of anxiety and being on HIGH alert. Her eyes showed the embarrassment she felt at the state of neglect her body was in (she has perfect dreadlocks in her mane showing months, maybe more, of neglect). She's a Paso Fino! They are extremely prideful, and honestly, kind of vain horses! They ARE the "creme de la creme" and they know it!!! And here she stood in a state of total neglect. I can't imagine what that did to her self esteem........
Even though my hands on time with her was limited to a glancing touch here and there, she definitely felt the Reiki energy that flowed and was VERY curious! The first time she allowed herself to get close enough to sniff my hand, her nostrils pulled the energy through my fingertips with such force, that I almost peed my pants! Literally!!! I have never experienced anything like that before but I knew that connection would be enough to get her through!!
After the session, she ate from a bucket while Belesa was holding it, IN the stable AND allowed Belesa to rub her jawline. I left feeling we had done good work....this video proves it! Yes, she still has a long way to go, but she now has a CHANCE! I truly cannot wait to see where she goes from here!!!

We recently held sacred space for an Equine Reiki session with "Lady", the horse in the middle, who needed some encouragement to be more social. Belesa Thompson, owner & operator of Healing Hearts Rescue and Rehab , sent this picture showing that "Lady" is willingly standing between the other two horses and wanting attention from volunteers! We are all SO proud of you "Lady" for working hard to overcome past trauma and grow into your highest horse self!!! Your journey has been a long, hard one but now you are in safe pastures and can be focus on being a horse again! Thank you for letting me be a part of this miraculous journey!!

When the doors open for you to "detour" across NC to hold sacred space for "Lady", a 10 year old mare saved from a kill pen with scars from being beaten all down her right side......you go!! Luckily, "Lady" now lives with Healing Hearts Rescue and Rehab who are open minded enough to give Equine Reiki a try. Energy flowed to help "Lady" feel safe & secure in her environment, eliminate food aggression and help her be more social with visitors and volunteers. As of last report, "Lady" displayed no signs of aggression at dinner feeding and she even let Belesa Thompson, the Centers owner, pet her while eating!! Small steps but BIG strides towards helping "Lady" achieve her highest Horse Self!! Contact Crescent Moon Healing Practices to schedule a session for your horse TODAY!!!
